The Last Sugar & Vice Subscription Box

Friday 27 March 2015

This month was the last ever Sugar & Vice subscription box for their Afternoon Tea collection. I am both super sad that it is the last one, but also totally understanding because it must be such a huge undertaking for just 2 people to do!

As ever, the box is arrives is stunning. The teal print is a lovely touch.

And upon opening, not only is there Sugar & Vice branded rock, but a tea and a candy necklace too. I love those little nuances that make their customer care so fantastic. As ever the bags containing the jewellery are black, so what is inside remains a surprise till each is opened.

The first thing I opened was this adorable purple brooch! It will be getting added to my beloved denim jacket for sure, so cute. It is not on their website currently, so I think it is the subscriber only goodie.

Biscuit Necklace £14

Available in vanilla, chocolate and pink wafer, this is so cute. A mix of wood and acrylic the detail is stunning.

Lattice Pie Necklace £16

Available in blueberry and cherry, I got the blueberry option. Again, a mix of wood and acrylic that just works so so well.

Macaron Necklace £14

That I got this necklace in lilac makes me super happy, purple is my favourite! It also comes in pink, yellow and peach. This is, quite simply, adorable! Certainly a favourite from the new collection.

Teaspoon Necklace £10

Now this is the perfect necklace for any tea fiend! It's a really cute design, the heart detail in the top of the handle is a particularly nice touch.

And now for some other favourites from the collection!

Macaron Bracelet £22

The pastel colours are so perfect for Spring, perfect to wear with your macaron necklace.

Battenburg Necklace £15

Oh my, battenburg is a favourite goodie of mine, and this necklace is just perfect.

Bunting Necklace £16

For me, this is the standout piece from the collection and my favourite. The bunting has roses etched into it and the colour combination is gorgeous. I love it!

While I am sad this is the last subscription box, I have found while I've been subscribed I didn't buy individual pieces so often from Sugar & Vice, so I'm looking forward to picking out favourites of the new collections to come instead!

Much love,
Kitty xxxxx

Monochromatic.

Wednesday 25 March 2015

Cardigan - George at Asda
Top - ASOS
Capris - New Look
Shoes - Converse
Sunglasses - Philip Normal
Necklace - Sugar & Vice

Spring has been sneaking up on us and I managed to dress cute for work again and grab photos for an outfit of the day post! I am in love with these capri jeans from New Look. They also have them in blue denim, and I think I might have to get them in that too. Really soft, very comfy, and they show off my leg tattoos. George have had so much cute stuff lately! I love a good oversized cardigan and have worn this so much. It's no longer available but I highly recommend taking a look in store or on their website. A lot of plus size bargains are to be found. The top is also a favourite of mine, it's now available in red.... which I might also need. I felt really cute this day. Casual, but the monochrome with flashes of red makes every outfit feel more dressed up.

Much love,

A Lovely Mother's Day

Saturday 21 March 2015

We had a lovely Mother's Day. We spent the day at my Mum's house, with my Auntie and my Grandmothers. I think it's so important to celebrate all the matriarchs in your life, not just your Mum.

Me and my Mum! Isn't she a babe? We don't often look alike, but in this photo we really, really do.

Dress - New Look
Jacket - New Look
Boots - Demonia
Bag - ASOS
Necklace - Christmas present from Stu

My outfit! I wanted to wear something girly for my Mum's sake :) The dress is somewhat on the short side, I find New Look dresses tend to run quite short so a word of warning if you are tall like me!

We got an amazing Terry's Chocolate Orange cheesecake from Once Upon a Time. It was so delicious!

And here is what I got for gifts for my family

Sass & Belle Plaque

Sass & Belle Magnet

Sass & Belle British Birds Scarf for my Mum

Sass & Belle Bee-Autiful Plaque for my Auntie

I got my Mum, Auntie and Grandmothers each a chocolate heart :)

All of these gifts would make lovely birthday presents too, Sass & Belle is definitely a website I'll be keeping an eye on, they have so much lovely stuff, especially adorable homeware.

And another photo of me being super awkward while Stu tries to take an outfit for me. I am so bad at having my photo taken! My hair finally looks like it is getting longer at least.

Much love,

A Casual OOTD

Tuesday 17 March 2015

It's been a little while since I posted an outfit of the day, the cold weather means I've been wrapping up like crazy rather than dressing cutely. It's finally started to warm up so I've been playing dress up!

Top - Blackcraft Cult
Skirt - ASOS Curve
Necklace - Sugar & Vice
Hi tops - Converse

I customised the shirt myself, full instructions for how I did this are in an earlier blog here. The off the shoulder look feels cuter and girlier than a regular tshirt, and I love how the slouchy fit looks.

Much love,

On being a good bride to your bridal party

Sunday 15 March 2015

In June 2016 Stu and I are getting married. The venue is booked, the photographer is booked, my hair and makeup is booked, I'm on the hunt for a florist, I know who is going to make my dress, and super importantly, I've asked all my the lovely ladies I want to be my bridesmaids, and they all said yes!

I'm having 2 bridesmaids. My best friend since school Fal, and a face that will be familiar to those who follow my photography or alt modelling generally, Roswell Ivory.

Roswell, me and Fal :)

As a kid I was a bridesmaid for my Auntie, I didn't have any responsibilities other than to show up and be cute, which I am sure I rocked. Last year, I was due to be bridesmaid for a girl I've known since university and considered a good friend, until, ultimately, she threw me out of the wedding party.

A whole bunch of stuff went wrong. I was incredibly ill in the months running up to the wedding and was in and out of hospital alot. My focus was on my health, which I consider to have been fair, rather than being a good friend. I wasn't able to go on the main hen party because between my illness, and the resulting time I had off work, a trip to Disneyland Paris wasn't affordable, or well advised. If I had become ill, I would have ruined the weekend for everyone there.

It was a really hard, stressful time, and I lost a friend, which was pretty heartbreaking. Planning a wedding is a stressful time, I totally get that, but I don't think it is fair for a bride to expect their bridal party to be at their beck and call for their every whim. Even during work hours!

So now that I am the one getting married, one of my biggest concerns is that my bridesmaids and bridal party have fun at my wedding! I've made myself some little rules to follow to help make sure it stays fun for everyone involved.

1) Your wedding might be your whole life in the run up to your wedding, but you can't expect it to be anyone else's. People have real lives, their own worries, their own work, and you can't expect them to drop everything for you.

2) A wedding is a celebration, it should be fun for everyone!

(Edited to add - I ended up with 4 awesome and beautiful bridesmaids!)

3) Comfort is key! One of the major problems I had was that the bride I was due to be bridesmaid for bought me a dress that was 3 sizes too small, and didn't want me to get it adjusted, which I had to so I could remotely fit in it. I also have size 10 feet, so I couldn't buy the same shoes the other bridesmaids were wearing, because they didn't make them in my size, and the bride was really distressed by this. I want my bridesmaids to be happy and comfortable all day. I'm planning on having my bridesmaids wear dresses with thicker shoulder straps, as they are quite busty and I want them to feel fully supported and not concerned that their boobs are about to go everywhere! If people have to wear slightly different things because they are different sizes, different heights etc, it's no biggie, I'd rather my loved ones be comfy and happy than every single detail be exactly the same. I'm also going for flat shoes, probably Converses for my bridesmaids. Comfy for a whole day of wear.

4) Keep it cheap! I felt terrible I couldn't go on a mega expensive weekend away for a hen party, but it just wasn't a realistic expense for me. My plan is to have 2 hen parties that involve the bare minimum of money for my hens. The first will be an afternoon tea party that both my grandmothers can come to, and my future Mother-in-Law, that will be something they can enjoy too. A nice relaxing afternoon! The other hen party will be the more 'me' one. At the moment, I'm thinking about going offroading, or Stu and I are considering a hens vs stags go karting do! Nothing that involves travel or big expense, but will be super fun.

5) You love your bridesmaids because of who they are, so don't try to change them. Got a best friend who is heavily tattooed? Don't make them cover up, celebrate what makes them them! I was asked to change my hair colour and lose weight (in not-subtle, but not totally direct ways either), two requests I consider entirely unreasonable. I love my bridesmaids because of what makes the unique, so I want to celebrate that with them on my wedding day. Fal rocks a girly mohawk, so I want her to rock it up! Roswell is famous for her beautiful long red hair, so I want it swishing about and showing it off!

6) Don't be afraid to ask for help. I want to do as much of my organising and planning as I can, I loooove planning stuff, but I also know I need help from my Mum and my family and Stu big time! They know about different things to what I might know, so their opinions and assistance is a huge help. Don't dump responsibilities on people, ask for help, and work together as a team! I know my bridesmaids are busy, and Roswell lives away, so I have a pinterest and have encouraged my bridesmaids to join so they can feel more involved, without feeling lots of pressure to be places in person that aren't realistic expectations.

7) Don't forget to say thank you! Your bridesmaids and bridal party are giving up time and money to be with you and a part of the most important day of your life, appreciate what they have done for you and make sure you thank them. I already have gifts in mind for my lovely ladies, and will make sure I thank them individually on the day too. These guys are your best friends, treat them like they are, and show them that you love them!

At the end of the day, everyone being happy and enjoying the day is the most important thing!

What advice do you have for brides about treating their bridesmaids well?

Much love,
Kitty xxxx

Gothesque Magazine Issue #22 Vol 3

Friday 13 March 2015

This year I've been determined to get published more, and it seems to be going well so far! I have an editorial in Issue #22 Vol 3 of Gothesque Magazine available here.

This set is also available in it's entirety on Zivity!

Model - Alivya V Free
Hair and Makeup - Alivya V Free
Dress - Katmaren Designs
Photography and edit - Kitty Wood Photography (me!)

This set was something super different for me. I don't really shoot period outfits, but when I saw the Royalty theme for both Gothesque and Zivity I knew Alivya would be come up with an incredible idea for it, and she did! How amazing is that crown? Handmade by Alivya. Just wow.

Roswell Ivory Photoshoot

Monday 9 March 2015

Roswell Ivory came to see me in February for our engagement party and we sneaked in a quick photoshoot too! Most of the photos are being held back for publication, so I can't share them, but I can share this set I shot with my fun holga lens.

Roswell is by far one of the sweetest human beings you could ever have the pleasure of meeting. Which is why I asked her to be my bridesmaid! If you are a photographer, clothing designer, hair and makeup artist, I cannot recommend her enough.

Once I have the OK, I'll post a blog with more photos from our shoot. Do you guys like seeing my photography too? I can share more of it.

Much love,
Kitty xxxxx

KatzeShop Mini Haul!

Thursday 5 March 2015

I am a huuuuge fan of KatzeShop, designed by Rosa Pietsch. Many of her pieces are one offs, and in February Rosa ran a sale, and then gave us an extra 10% for a Valentine's treat, I couldn't resist!

As ever, my goodies arrived in a lovely box wrapped up beautifully.

The little note I got inside! Such a cute personal touch. So exciting to know that these were some of Rosa's first designs and I would now have them to treasure and show off.

What I got!

Large Cat-Eye Pendant Necklace - one off, similar available here

I knew this was going to be gorgeous, but wow! The silver resin in the eye adds an extra dimension to the cat eye, which, as a cat lady, I could not resist! The long chain dangling from the eye means the length of the necklace is perfect for the style of tops I've been buying lately. Can't wait to wear it! I think summer and spring are perfect for wooden jewellery, and this is a stunner.

Cresent Moon necklace with chains and engraving - no longer available, but similar here

You know I can't resist a moon right?! This is ideal for wearing over black, and the engraving on the the acrylic is subtle but so gorgeous!

Click the photo to enlarge it so you can properly see the detail, it was tricky to photograph.

Crescent Moon Hair Slide - no longer available, similar available here

I really struggle to wear anything in my hair, but the odd kirby grip I can cope with on a good day. With this being wood and acrylic, I think it should be light enough to wear occasionally.

I am forever eyeing up more from Rosa's shop, you should really check her out! She's a lovely lady too which is always a bonus.

Tattoo Tea Party

Tuesday 3 March 2015

For the first time ever, I went to a tattoo convention! I went to Tattoo Tea Party in Manchester and it was fab! As soon as I knew Keely Rutherford of Jolie Rouge would be there, I knew I had to be there. We booked in advance, and got there a little early. Once we were let into EventCity it was really well organised and well run. I was booked in with Keely first thing, so I went straight on the hunt to find her!

Keely was sharing a booth with her lovely fella Jethro Wood, another super talented tattoo artist.

Opposite was Rizza Boo, an artist I'm a huge fan of so I couldn't resist sneaking over to her stall to have a peek. I want something from her so bad!

Keely is working on my leg, this adorable leopard print moth is the last large part of it, next up is background! The colours are inspired by True Romance, mine, Stu's, and Keely's fave film.

It is super hard to take a photo of your own leg! It's on my inner calf, so tricky to photograph without it looking distorted. I love it so much!

Next up we wandered around and I took some snaps of awesome stuff we found around the event.

Relics 'N' Rust

Mrs M Vintage

I loved that painting so much, it's beautiful.

Burning Sensations

Aurora Tattoo

Le Segaula Tatau

It was incredible to get to see an artist working in a traditional hand tapped tattoo method. Stu has always wanted a traditional hand poked or tapped tattoo.

Rusty Pistons

Oh that car. Now that is proper car porn. Nom. How amazing would it be to get to have a go in this?!

Dr Phantasma's Side Show

I only caught a brief glimpse of the show, wish we'd had time to see the whole thing!

I bumped into the lovely Melissa Hayward. I photographed her about 4 years ago so it was lovely to catch up. She is a real sweetie, and such a babe!

I also wanted to go over and say hey to Shelly D'Inferno. I've photographed her clothing range with Maja Stina and I love Shelly's modelling. She was at the convention with Pyrohex, the fire performing troupe she is in. The blue haired cutie is Katherine Suicide, and the red head is Cervena Fox.

I somehow ended up in a photo with Shelly, Cervena and Katherine. Do excuse how tired I look! I'd been up since 6:45 and had driven 2 and a half hours to get there, then spent 2 and a half hours in an awkward position getting tattooed.

Cranfield's Curiosity Cabinet

A booth full of incredible taxidermy and my personal favourites, moths and butterflies! I've always wanted some framed moths and butterflies, I was so tempted by their Oleander moth, because it's one of the ones I have tattooed on me, but I couldn't justify the pennies right now.

Handmade By Me

I was actually wearing one of HMBM's pieces without even realising it. The Star Trek insignia necklace Stu got me for Christmas was from them. It seemed appropriate to wear after hearing the heartbreaking news of Leonard Nimoy's passing.

The Painted Skull

Now this is the stall I was determined to find! I follow The Painted Skull on instagram and had fallen in love with their death head moth deer skulls, so took the opportunity to get one in person! I can't wait to mount it on our bedroom wall.

And of course, I had to visit the lovely folks from Loaded Forty-Four. I bought a moth print from Lawrence Canham, and creeped on the amazing work Hannah Von Farren was doing, a palm piece!

I couldn't resist sneaking back to see Keely and to take a few snaps of her working.

Me and my lovely Stu <3

It was an awesome day, and I hope to go again next year!

ps. How adorable is this little guy?!
