Plus Size Blogger Promise

Friday 29 May 2015

This summer, I am taking part in a special plus size blogger promise, inspired by the adorable Katt. I am going to promise 5 things to myself this summer! So here are my promises....

1. I promise to not cover my arms.

My arms have always been a problem area for me, I have stretchmarks on them, this weird sort of crease in them, and I am so aware of them. I have gone whole summers boiling hot, wearing sleeves and cardigans and hiding them away. And I won't do it anymore!

2. I promise to try out new styles.

For the longest time I wore a uniform of black skirt, short sleeve tshirt, full length leggings. All plain. Never ever will I go back to that again!

3. I promise to not live in leggings all summer long.

So me and leggings have a long history. Since about 2009 I've probably worn them with basically every outfit until relatively recently, feeling like I had to cover up my whole legs. I hated my knees, my calves, my ankles, all of them! Since I started getting my legs tattooed last year, this changed. Rather than focus on the eczema scars, and the shapes of my legs, all I see are these beautiful designs and I love my legs. I can't wait to get them tattooed more and have them out!

4. I promise to embrace bright colours.

I love black clothing. I think it's instantly classy, sexy, and just generally bad ass. But wearing black all the time is also part of my clothing security blanket thanks to that old adage that black is slimming. No more, I want colour, colour and more colour!

5. I promise to share the love!

Summer so often means more snark than usual for us fat women. And I know that I am no angel, we've been programmed to judge each other, and be catty, and we are better than that. Instead of seeing someone wearing something I'm not brave enough to wear and judging them, I want to celebrate them instead. Share the love!

And in the theme of sharing the love, I'm going to share with you all the other babely bloggers who are taking part in this #PlusSizePromise

Please check them out!

Much love,

Polly Grace: The Katrina Dress

Wednesday 27 May 2015

You guys. You guys, this dress. I am in love with this dress!

Polly Grace Katrina Dress £30*

This dress. Where do I start?! The midi length and full skirt make for a perfect dress for summer parties and weddings. The style of this dress is so lovely, it ties with a bow at either the front or the back, and zips up. The skirt is lightly pleated, which really adds to the swish of the skirt. And the print, I am in love with this print! This is the 'multi floral' print, it is also available in tropical, rose, green, and mono, all gorgeous flowery prints. I think mine looks like amazing firework explosions!

Don't you agree? The colours are so fabulous. While it is black as a base, the colours mean this would be suitable to wear as a guest for a more traditional wedding without having to worry about wearing too much black. The material is gorgeous and lightweight, so even on the hottest of summer days you would stay cool.

Look at the swish! I couldn't resist twirling about in it. You could totally put a petticoat underneath this to really glam it up. Thank you to my Stu for taking these photos for me and putting up with my daftness!

Polly Grace have very kindly given me a discount code to share with my lovely readers! Use kitty20 to get a massive 20% off your order! You can also get free delivery till the end of May, and brand new customers will be given reward points towards future purchases!

Much love,
Kitty xxxx

*This dress was gifted to me by Polly Grace for review purposes. In no way does this affect my opinions, which are entirely my own.

Polly Grace

Wednesday 20 May 2015

I love discovering new companies who make wonderful plus size clothing, and I was thrilled when Polly Grace emailed me to introduce themselves. They are a brand new company, and they have such beautiful clothes! They asked if I would like to try out some of their clothes, and I leapt at the chance. I'm going to be featuring those items in a series of blog posts with different ways to style them. I originally planned to do a haul, but actually, I think this is much more fun and shows how versatile their clothing is.

Penny Shirt in pale pink £22*

This gorgeous slightly sheer shirt was an easy choice. It's totally unlike anything I currently own, I love the drapey look of it, and I thought it would be easy to dress up in different ways. I went for a more rocky look with a striped tube skirt underneath, leggings, converses, a pleather jacket, and a skeleton hand necklace from Sugar & Vice. The pale pink contrasted to make this a girly but rock and roll look. I got so many compliments on this shirt!

It's nice and lightweight, longer at the back, and just sheer enough to be sexy, without being too revealing. It's also available in white, and a gorgeous bright blue that I almost picked. This could be paired with jeggings or jeans for a more casual look, with a belt, but could easily be glammed up with heels, shiny leggings and lots of jewellery.

I'll be posting more about the beautiful clothing they sent me shortly,

Much love,
Kitty xxxxx

DIY Jewellery Holder with Sass & Belle

Friday 15 May 2015

I have a little bit of a problem with jewellery. In that well, it fills my jewellery boxes, my drawers, my cupboards, I have kiiiiind of a lot! So recently I've been thinking about new ways that I can store my necklaces in particular, and thanks to Sass & Belle, I had an idea! When I tweeted about my idea, Sass & Belle were kind enough to get in touch and were excited by the idea too, so decided to send me the pieces I needed for it from them. What sweethearts!

And this is the finished product! A DIY jewellery holder made using Sass & Belle's amazing door & drawer knobs, mounted onto a piece of wood.

I had a lot of help with the actual making of this, so huge thanks go to my neighbour and friend Andy who was super enthusiastic and helped put it together better than I could have dreamed of it going!

Stag Head Drawer Knob £4.50
Rabbit Head Boudoir Drawer Knob in Cream £6.50

Andy was also responsible for this stunning piece of wood, it's actually part of the old bar our local pub recently replaced, which we are regulars in, so it makes it even more special for me!

Cat Dress Up Drawer Knob £4.50
Elephant Head Boudoir Drawer Knob in Cream £3.50

Andy drilled, and mounted each drawer knob, so that they didn't go all the way through the wood. By not having them sit flush to the wood, it allowed for more room to hand jewellery on them, without having to balance pieces on the decorative parts of the knobs.

Vintage Clock Drawer Knob £3
Skull Drawer Knob £4

I picked out drawer knobs that appealed to my personal style, spooky and cute, with a hint of nature. Sass & Belle also have adorable pastel drawer knobs, flowery patterns, cute animals, and vintage prints, so you can truly match your choices to your room decor. Of course I chose stags, because I have them all over the house, cats because I have kitties, the skull is creepy cute, the swallow is reminiscent of classic tattoos, and I just adore that elephant!

19th Century Eye Print Drawer Knob £4.50
Swallow Boudoir Drawer Knob in Cream £4.50

I love the intricacy of the cream drawer knobs, the designs are beautiful and look vintage and worn. They are sturdy and strong, so perfect for hanging jewellery on without worrying about breaking them. I was really impressed with their quality. The solid metal that screws through the wood is thick and affixed to the drawer knob itself incredibly well.

All jewellery pictured is from the fabulous Sugar & Vice, whose jewellery is the major reason for my needing more room for storage!

What do you think? I'm so thrilled with it! It came out so well, Andy was an amazing help, and Sass & Belle's kitsch range of drawer knobs was perfect for a unique DIY project. Thank you so much! I can now proudly display so much of my jewellery, and clearly be able to see my different pieces, as well as remove them easily.

Much love,
Kitty xxxxx

The drawer knobs featured in this post were gifted to me by Sass & Belle for the purpose of this project. In no way does this affect my opinion of the items, which are all my own.

A 40th Birthday Surprise!

Monday 11 May 2015

Ever see something so perfect for someone that you had to get them it? I had that moment in October 2014 when Lawrence Canham posted a sketch of a tattoo design he wanted to do on facebook. As soon as I saw it, I knew what I was getting for Stu, my then-boyfriend and now-fiance, for his 40th birthday in April 2015!

This is the photo that he posted. Perfect! It has a skull, dot work, and a beautiful death head moth. Stu has been admiring Lawrence's work since my first visit to Loaded Forty-Four in May 2014, and had been desperate to get something by him. I messaged Lawrence as soon as I saw the design, and asked if he would be prepare to hold it for such a long time for me and explained why. He was super sweet and eager to help. An hour later, Stu noticed the photo on facebook....

Too late though Stu.... I had already paid the deposit and it was booked, but not till April! I spent ages debating how to tell him and when. In the end, I settled on the night before the appointment, which was a week before his birthday.

In the end I opted for this, a little heart made out of paper, with the photo taken from facebook, and a little message written on it too.

I was so nervous, but thankfully Stu was so totally thrilled! Yay! So the next day we got up and got ready and drove to Swinton to see the crew at Loaded Forty-Four.

Lawrence spent a bunch of time getting the stencil just right, with it having straight lines he wanted it just so. We naired Stu's legs the night before and Lawrence remarked that they were the 'smoothest men's legs he'd ever encountered' haha. And off they went!

Lawrence tattooing Stu.

Getting there!

Half done and time for a break.

Thanks to Lydia (I think it was Lydia, sorry if it wasn't!) for grabbing Stu a straw so he could comfortably sip his Relentless. We nattered most of the time, and towards the end I sat reading Game of Thrones on my Kindle and he played Cookie Jam haha.

The finished piece! Seriously, how amazing is that? The detail and dot work is just incredible. Stu loves it so much which makes me super happy. He's been living in shorts since he got it done to show it off and is already planning what he wants Lawrence to do on his other calf.

And now, the tip! I take tipping tattoo artists very seriously, I like to buy them little gifts and presents, and as soon as I saw this I had to get it. It's a cake, that's a pie, a pie, that's a cake!! With chocolate gravy and icing chips and peas. Amazing!

Thank you so so much to Lawrence for helping me surprise Stu, and holding this design for over 6 months. I cannot recommend Lawrence and the whole crew at Loaded Forty-Four enough. They are a seriously talented bunch and I hope we will be back over to them soon to get more work done.

And here is healed photo!

Much love,
Kitty xxxxx

Spring OOTD

Wednesday 6 May 2015

Top - ASOS Curve
Skirt - George at Asda
Pleather Jacket - Matalan
Necklace - Sugar & Vice
Sandals - Evans

Over Easter my Mum decided to risk our first BBQ of the year. So I dressed for summer, but put a cheeky Sugar & Vice storm cloud necklace on because I had the feeling it would rain! The skirt is a maxi skirt with raised sides, so cute and comfy, and a real bargain at £12. We didn't end up having a BBQ outside as our poor pooch Ashen had surgery and wasn't allowed outside, so we were inside with him.

Our poor baby! He had a lot of stitches after finding a lump in his shoulder, and was only allowed out supervised for necessary outsideness. I felt so mean keeping him in while it's so nice.

I featured my shoes in my March favourites, they are so comfy and lovely, I just know I am going to wear them constantly. I need a pedicure though! The ankle straps are adjustable, so if you have bigger ankles they should still fit, and they have small areas of elastic so they move easily with your feet which makes them much comfier and more likely to last well.

Much love,
Kitty xxxxx

April Favourites

Monday 4 May 2015

Is it that time again already? April went by so quickly! Lot's happened in April, so here are this month's favourites.

#WeAreTheThey

I am so proud, and so thrilled to see such a wonderful movement come out of such hate. I love being a part of this community.

Sugar & Vice OOAK Pentagram Necklace from their Depop

Depop gives you the chance to grab one off designs and sample pieces from Sugar & Vice, and this is a fave I picked up this month. I love their wooden lasercut pieces and how dainty this is.

Gemma Collins Embellished Maxi Dress £70*

I love the fit of this dress, the material, it's beautiful and I felt amazing in it.

Cacti!

I love cacti, and Stu surprised me with 3 new ones this month, all 3 of which are flowering beautifully in 3 different colours. Love!

This photo of me.

Is it wrong to really love a photo of yourself? Cause I feel like this is just 'me', in a photo. Selfies are like, the most flattering and idealised version of yourself, but this, this is me. And I like it!

Stu's tattoo by Lawrence Canham.

I am so so glad I got this for Stu for his birthday. It's gorgeous!

Philip Normal Sunglasses from Depop

I love these sooooo much. Stu calls these my Tim Burton's Willy Wonka glasses. Love.

So so cute and perfect for festival season. I'm so happy it's warmer so I can wear this!

I absolutely bloody love this album. I listened to it so much after we saw them live that I scratched it and had to replace it. The new one just arrived and I've fallen in love all over again. Sleazy, bluesy, sexy rock and roll, with seriously amazing vocals from Liva Steinberga, who is a total babe to boot. When they played at Yardbirds no one knew who they were. By the end of the first song, everyone in the place was paying attention. I hope to get to see them again soon.

Happy Hair Days Shampoo & Conditioner

So try as I might, I cannot find any website for this company online. According to their bottles, they are paraben and sulphate free, which is fab, and some blogs claim they are vegan and cruelty free. I can't vouch for this because there seems to be so little info about them available. They don't have the gross chemicals in them that make your hair foam up which is a plus, which also means they should be better for not stripping colour out of hair. The conditioners are great. They aren't too heavy feeling, and my hair has been super soft and thick since I started using them.

George at Asda Palm Print Maxi Dress £14

So this print is amazing, and I have it in dress, skirt and top form at this point. George's summer range is amazing, and such lovely quality. I felt adorable in this!

I am sure there were other things, but hopefully I've featured them in other posts or posts to come!

Much love,
Kitty xxxxx

So this print is amazing, and I have it in dress, skirt and top form at this point. George's summer range is amazing, and such lovely quality. I felt adorable in this!

I am sure there were other things, but hopefully I've featured them in other posts or posts to come!

Much love,
Kitty xxxxx
