Tesco Halloween Homeware Haul

Yes, this really is my third Halloween homeware haul! I popped to Tesco for some food shopping and couldn't resist a cheeky look in the Halloween section, and of course some thing maybe accidentally fell into my trolley and ended up coming home with me. Oops.

So nothing I bought from Tesco is actually listed on their website, even though their Halloween section is enormous! First thing that caught my eye was this ice cube tray of brains. It's just the sort of ridiculous thing I'd use all year round. I love ice and am always making trays of it, and these are really sturdy too, so you could easily use the moulds to make chocolate or jelly.

You know I couldn't resist a glittery skull right? It's only cheap polystyrene covered in glitter, but it's fun enough. I snagged two of these, they were about a quid each. 

Probably my favourite thing that I picked up was this skull candle. The holes in the top show the red on the inside, as it burns it looks like it's bleeding, which is pretty cool! It was a couple of quid again, so cheap and fun. I don't really burn candles in the house (3 cats and candles is just asking for a problem or an injury), but I might have to carefully guard this one because it burns in such a cool way.

The last thing I picked out was a set of 6 plastic tumblers in 3 patterns. They are great for kids if you are a bit 'spookier' on the daily, but I also tend to prefer plastic cups when we have BBQ parties. Drunk friends and glass are not a good combo, so I make them all use plastic... I know, I'm mean! But I like my glasses intact, and these were too cute to resist. Look at their little faces!

I'm sure I'll probably end up picking a few more pieces before Halloween.

Christmas at the Morris-Wood Household

Last year Stu and I decided that we were going to get a real Christmas tree. It would be the first time both of us had a real Christmas tree since we were kids. There is something about the smell of them, it truly feels like Christmas, and they just look so much better than a fake tree. We buy them from a local farmer whose son I went to school with, and then I decorate! And I do mean I. I get a little.... determined that the tree will be just right, and I like certain things, and for things to be evenly spaced. So Stu leaves me to it!

For the second year in a row, we have an ever so slightly wonky tree. The top of them always just seems to droop a bit. It adds character, I don't mind! This is a 6ft tree, I'm basically the same height as it so it's easy.

I have a thing about tinsel, so we have a totally tinsel free tree. I just think it's kinda... tacky and creepy? I've never liked it for some reason, so no tinsel, red berry lights, and lots and lots of baubles. As last year was our first real tree, I bought a whole load more decorations this year to really make sure it was full up.

I couldn't resist this glass burger bauble, Asda has some seriously kick ass decorations this year and I ended up paying them a visit twice over after seeing some of the baubles on social media.

Last year Sugar & Vice offered incredible laser cut baubles as part of their Christmas range. They haven't got them for sale this year, but I know they take custom orders all year round so it'd be worth dropping them a message! True Romance is a shared love of mine and Stu's, so this was an easy choice.

My beloved Rokki. My families cat Rokki passed away this year. He loved Christmas, so it seemed fitting to have him be a part of our Christmas tree. I surprised my Mum and brother with one of these each too for their own trees. I miss that furry little man.

This is from Sainsbury's, it reminded me of dragon scales, a bauble fit for a Khaleesi.

Butterflies are incredibly special to me, so our tree always has butterflies on it. These are sort of, opalescent and so pretty, I got a few of these from The Range.

One from last year, there are stags and owls all over our tree. I love a stag motif.

Oh yes, another Asda special, fries!

This is why I have the red lights, I look how slightly spooky but super pretty everything looks lit only by red. I like our tree to be kinda classy, but I couldn't resist the Asda baubles this year. I like our tree to be full of stuff we love, so owls, stags, butterflies and Rokki.

What decorations have you gotten this year? I know Asda had a whole load of other glass baubles including dogs, I just couldn't justify them all!

Jewellery is a girl's best friend!

That's right. Not diamonds, but jewellery. I love jewellery. Necklaces and rings and shiny things. I love them all! And you know I love a statement necklace in particular, so I couldn't resist these shiny beautiful pieces when I saw them on sale recently.

First up, this gorgeous teal and purple necklace that I bought from Amanda Apparel via her Depop. It is such unusual colours that I couldn't resist! I also bought a dress from her I'll photograph soon. She sent them out super quick and packaged really well, and generally seems to be a sweetie!

I love all silver everything, and the pearlescent look of the stones mean this will match any colour outfit so well! I like the spiked look of the feathers and the shape of this. It actually sits in 3 sections so it will lie better when worn.

Shells, silver, turquoise and a bloody huge necklace is just so me! For £6, there was no way this wasn't coming home with me. It's absolutely lush. All the different shapes and patterns are beautiful. Perfect for festival season, and also available in a gold colour too.

More jewellery means more means to store it are needed. And I got myself a bargain in the Urban Outfitters sale.

I have to admit, I tried to hang this and immediately dropped it, smashing off one of the horns. However, it looks like it'll be super easy to glue, oops! I might get some colourful paint and spray this a different colour, white isn't really my thing, but I love a skull!

A 40th Birthday Surprise!

Ever see something so perfect for someone that you had to get them it? I had that moment in October 2014 when Lawrence Canham posted a sketch of a tattoo design he wanted to do on facebook. As soon as I saw it, I knew what I was getting for Stu, my then-boyfriend and now-fiance, for his 40th birthday in April 2015!

This is the photo that he posted. Perfect! It has a skull, dot work, and a beautiful death head moth. Stu has been admiring Lawrence's work since my first visit to Loaded Forty-Four in May 2014, and had been desperate to get something by him. I messaged Lawrence as soon as I saw the design, and asked if he would be prepare to hold it for such a long time for me and explained why. He was super sweet and eager to help. An hour later, Stu noticed the photo on facebook....

Too late though Stu.... I had already paid the deposit and it was booked, but not till April! I spent ages debating how to tell him and when. In the end, I settled on the night before the appointment, which was a week before his birthday.

In the end I opted for this, a little heart made out of paper, with the photo taken from facebook, and a little message written on it too. 

I was so nervous, but thankfully Stu was so totally thrilled! Yay! So the next day we got up and got ready and drove to Swinton to see the crew at Loaded Forty-Four.

Lawrence spent a bunch of time getting the stencil just right, with it having straight lines he wanted it just so. We naired Stu's legs the night before and Lawrence remarked that they were the 'smoothest men's legs he'd ever encountered' haha. And off they went!

Thanks to Lydia (I think it was Lydia, sorry if it wasn't!) for grabbing Stu a straw so he could comfortably sip his Relentless. We nattered most of the time, and towards the end I sat reading Game of Thrones on my Kindle and he played Cookie Jam haha.

The finished piece! Seriously, how amazing is that? The detail and dot work is just incredible. Stu loves it so much which makes me super happy. He's been living in shorts since he got it done to show it off and is already planning what he wants Lawrence to do on his other calf.

And now, the tip! I take tipping tattoo artists very seriously, I like to buy them little gifts and presents, and as soon as I saw this I had to get it. It's a cake, that's a pie, a pie, that's a cake!! With chocolate gravy and icing chips and peas. Amazing!

Thank you so so much to Lawrence for helping me surprise Stu, and holding this design for over 6 months. I cannot recommend Lawrence and the whole crew at Loaded Forty-Four enough. They are a seriously talented bunch and I hope we will be back over to them soon to get more work done.
