Our First Wedding Anniversary

Back on 4th June, Stu and I celebrated our first wedding anniversary. We were away on holiday in Cornwall with some of our best friends and spent the night on the beach eating cheesy chips. Bliss! I thought it was about time I actually shared what we got each other, because I think we both did pretty awesome. Traditionally different years of marriage are associated with different items; for your first wedding anniversary in the UK it is paper. I had been racking my brain for a good idea and paper finally gave me the inspiration I needed.

When Stu was married previously (I'm his second wife), he had a lot of art work by the artist Ed Org. When he moved out he left basically everything behind, including all of his beloved Ed Org prints. I decided to buy him a signed artist proof and really hoped he would like it. Thankfully, he really did! It's an unusual size so we need to get it professionally framed but it really does deserve that.

Stu actually bought me 3 presents and spoilt me rotten, but I forgot to photograph the other thing he got me, oops! He got me the Ladybird book on 'How to be a wife'. It's all kinds of ridiculous and a cute gift. Stu's gifts had both the paper theme, and were inspired by our first dance. He got me an original limited edition vinyl of Skid Row's I Remember You. Skid Row were the band that brought us together and dancing to I Remember You is such a precious memory from our wedding day.

He also got me this awesome sound wave of I Remember You! I love personalised presents like this and maybe did a small cry. Maybe. OK I definitely cried. He gave me such thoughtful and beautiful presents, they couldn't have been more perfect for our first wedding anniversary. I'm so lucky!

Being Ghosted : Things I Love About Summer

10 Random Facts About Me

It's been a while since I did a blog post about 'me', rather than about fashion or body politics, so I thought I'd throw in a random facts post to say hey to any newbies to my blog!

First, here's a little general 'about me' - 

I'm Kitty Morris, age 28, recently married the love of my life Stu in June. Step parent to 3 children (I don't blog about them at all to respect their privacy), and Momma to 3 cats and a dog (who I talk about constantly online). Our cats are called Stitches, Patch and Lemmy Katmister, and our dog is Ashen. All 4 are rescues, adopt don't shop!

So, some random facts...

1) I got talking to my husband because I told a teeny tiny white lie the night I met him. He asked me if I liked Skid Row, and if I wanted to come see a tribute with him and some friends in a week's time. I told him I loved them, and would totally go with him... When I got home that night I googled Skid Row and desperately hoped I'd like them. Turns out I knew some of their songs, and they were absolutely my sort of thing. They quickly became one of my favourite bands. I fessed up 2 years later.

2) I have green eyes. When I was a kid they were more blue/grey, but once I hit my teens they settled on green. I once attracted a troll on instagram who gave me a load of abuse for saying I had green eyes... even though I do.

3) I really, really, really hate peppers. Like bell peppers. The texture of them creeps me out so badly. I think it feels like flesh, and it creeps me out, I can't eat them. Stu finds this totally hilarious and teases me relentlessly about it.

4) My ultimate cheer me up film that I watch whenever I'm poorly, or down, is Con Air. I must have seen it 70 times. I love it. It's ridiculous and hilarious. Put the bunny back in the box!

5) I don't like even numbers. When I set alarms or set volumes it has to be at an odd number, preferably a 1, 3 or 7. Setting an alarm for 8:00 just bugs me and I can't do it. 8:01 it has to be.

6) I collect succulents and cacti. I have about 30 varieties in the house currently, and have planted more into pots in the garden that have grown too big for the house. It's why we had them in our wedding in our table decorations and flowers, I just adore them.

7) Lemmy Katmister, our newest cat, loves to sleep under the covers with us, which is so weird. He likes to be the little spoon. He's so odd. It can be very disconcerting haha! We recently discovered that this is because he doesn't understand blankets. When I'm under a blanket, the only bit of me he thinks exists is the bit that isn't covered, so my head/face most of the time. So when I life the covers he then understands I exist even when under the blanket, but wants to stay under the blanket in the alternative blanket dimension.

8) I can't say the word phenomenal. I just can't say it. I get stuck in the middle of it and can't get to the end of it. Never have been able to say it and I have no idea why.

9) I didn't always have the gap in my front teeth. I had braces for a couple of years, and they were removed before they were ready to be removed. It left me with gaps either side of my mouth that were about a tooth width, my teeth have slowly moved backwards into those gaps, leaving me with my front tooth gap and small gaps at the sides to. Over time it is slowly getting wider as my teeth move.

10) Speaking of my mouth, I also have my smiley piercing. I've had it for 4 years now and absolutely adore it. I wear piercing suitable plastic in it so it doesn't rub on my gums, and my dentist is happy with it. Most people find over the period of a few years theirs grows out, mine hasn't budged. Apparently I have quite the sturdy upper lip frenulum.

Festwich Fashion

The last weekend of July myself and Stu took his boys to a free festival called Festwich in Prestwich, Manchester. It was held over 2 days and features heavy metal and rock cover bands and is family friendly. We had such an amazing time! So much fun, well run, and the staff were all lovely. The highlights of the weekend bandwise for me were Mentallica, Knotslip, Guns or Roses and Ozzbest.

Fashion went somewhat wayside for the weekend as comfort was going to be key for 2 days in a field with the boys, as you know I had them up on my shoulders for the bands! They absolutely loved it :D I decided on one skirt to keep the packing light, and to take 2 t shirts with me, nice and easy.

The outfit! Skirt is from last summer from New Look, shoes are Dunlop low tops, and the tshirt is from the most recent Skid Row tour, modified by me! I wore leggings I'd cut into shorts underneath the skirt for comfort, meaning my tattoo was on show for once.

This was day 1. It was boiling and I tanned like crazy. My hair went up after about 10 minutes outside with it down haha! Classy photos taken in the car park by Stu.

Day 2 was the same skirt, with a different modified tshirt, this time the Lucipurr shirt in sold out limited edition orange from BlackCraftCult.

I wore different sunglasses the 2nd day. As much as I adore the other shades, because of my chronic pain they aren't the most comfortable, and as I was driving back from the festival late at night, comfy was the key to minimal pain, so cat eye sunglasses from Ebay it was!

I loved how I modified both of my tshirts, I also modified Stu's tshirts into vests with a different neckline for him for the weekend as well. He is now addicted and keeps bringing me more to do! It's super easy, maybe I should write a blog about it?

Festwich was amazing, and if you get the chance you should totally go!

A work outfit, take II!

Another work outfit, that was also comfy enough for the long dog walk in the evening with the pooch :)

My sunglasses are just cheap ones from Ebay, I felt kind of rock chicky today hence the ridiculous pout in this photo. I won't do it again!

My adorable dress is from ASOS, it isn't available anymore sadly. They also had it in acid wash and I wish I had managed to get it! The red vest top is a cheap one from Tesco last summer, I could probably have done with the next size up in the dress for my boobs, which is an odd thing to say as I'm not particularly endowed, so I always wear it with a vest top underneath and the top buttons undone.

I wore it with my ASOS curve leggings in tartan check £18. I bought these when they were on sale. Super soft material and very comfy. And as ever, my Demonia sneakers. Hey, I gotta be comfy at work and for walking the dog!

My amazing Skid Row necklace was a custom commission I got from Sugar & Vice, they did such an awesome job, I love it to bits. No full outfit as I was on my own this morning when I got ready :)
