My Favourite Photos of 2016

Tuesday, 10 January 2017

I didn't do all that many photoshoots in 2016, something I absolutely plan to work on this year, but I do feel like I produced some work I'm really proud of! I always like to take the new year to reflect on my old work to see what I can improve on, and also share the work I'm still happy with. I tend to end up picking at my old work and thinking about what else I could have done, or how differently I could have done it, so if I still like it at the end of the year, I figure it must be OK!

2016 had a recurring theme of flowers and baths. I can't resist the way the water looks on camera, and I love real flowers so much. This set with Twig was a favourite for sure.

I met Paigey Christie and she is a total babe, I love her vulnerability in this shot of her wearing a tutu.

I was more experimental this year, and focused on head shots, and this photo of Roswell Ivory was from a session lasting about 10 minutes with my ring flash.

I never used to take many head shots, so Alivya was a great challenge to only shoot head shots, and getting the focus just right on her eyes was a mission!

Possibly my favourite set of photos from the entire year, 'The Wild Queen'.

More flowers, another bath! Felis is such a beauty.

I also took my camera along to the Curve Fashion Festival to photograph random babes throughout the day, including Steph of Nerd About Town in Navabi. This location was just made for that outfit!

Naomi of Diamonds & Pearls just filled my heart with glee when I took her photo, what a smile!

I plan to fill 2017 with more plus size babes, and more concepts, and hopefully a few more photo shoots than last year!

Much love,
Kitty xxx

Alivya V Free Photoshoot

Tuesday, 3 January 2017

It's always a privilege to photograph Alivya V Free, so she was perfect for my last photoshoot of 2016. We've been working together for 10 years this year! Liv is a wonderful human being and we hadn't had chance to really hang out since the wedding (she was one of my bridesmaids) so I was super glad to get to squish her and photograph her too.

We don't tend to do much planning in the way of photoshoots, all we decided this time was that we'd shoot head shots and beauty portraits exclusively, and wing it!

It wouldn't be a shoot with Liv if we didn't involve one of her amazing headpieces. She makes the coolest accessories! I can't even begin to imagine how long it would have taken to cover this in crystals. Side note - I don't photoshop skin, Liv's skin is just this flawless.

One of the fun things about improvising with Liv is how creative she is. We used a cut up Christmas decoration for this look!

When Liv and I first started working together she was super goth, and I was a terrible walking alternative photographer cliche. Deep down inside we are both still secret goths, so we always like to shoot something spooky together. We actually used the leftover tulle from my wedding veil that Liv made me for this look!

For my personal favourite set of the shoot 'The Wild Queen' the makeup got smeared and Liv really went for it with the expressions. I love this set so much! She got the crown from Ebay, such a good bargain.

I just adore Liv, and I can't wait to work with her again. In 2017 I plan on much more of this sort of work, so get in touch!

Much love,
Kitty xxxx

Nerd About Town Photoshoot

Tuesday, 29 November 2016

Back in September at Curve Fashion Festival I bugged the beautiful Steph of Nerd About Town to let me take outfit photos for her. I had a photo project which you can check out at She Might Be, but I couldn't resist the chance to photograph Steph looking so fierce. Outdoor fashion shoots are something I don't get the chance to do much of in the autumn and winter (it's too cold to ask someone to pose outside!). It was still pretty warm when we took these, and the yellow blocks tied in perfectly with Steph's outfit.

How killer is this shirt dress from Navabi? It's soooo gorgeous, and I love Steph in yellow. Those thigh splits are so good, all thigh everything. The pom pom earrings are such a cute touch too.

Steph's style is so unlike mine, she puts together outfits and looks I wouldn't have ever thought of and always look immaculate. That her fashion taste is so different from mine makes her blog one of my faves, because I can always find some inspiration for something totally different!

What I love most about Steph, isn't that she isn't afraid to fight for what is right, for more representation, and for diversity in the media, both as a plus size woman, and as a black woman. If you don't follow her already, you really should.

I love taking blogger outfit photos and do offer discounted rates for blog photos, so get in touch if you want to book me! It's something I want to do a lot more of in 2017.

Much love,
Kitty xxx

I got my photo mojo back!

Sunday, 20 November 2016

After over a 6 month hiatus, I am back in the photography game! The wedding took a lot of planning, and it seems like we've had a year of big birthdays and adventures, so I've had no time for photoshoots. But I'm finally back.

I photographed the gorgeous Twig to get my mojo back. We've worked together 3 times and I just adore her. She's wonderful and creative and inspiring.

The beautiful lingerie Twig wears here is by Karolina Laskowska who is an actual lingerie genius.

This effect is entirely in camera thanks to a rather awesome plastic (really!) Holga lens.

I must have looked rather... interesting taking this photo. I was outside the house, Twig was inside, and I was throwing glasses of water at the window to get the look I wanted. The choker is another Karolina creation.

You can never go wrong with a black dress and a mega thigh split!

And our favourite set of the day, the one we planned out and bought so many flowers for. We dyed the bathwater with food colouring, which thankfully did not stain the bath.

I am so glad I kicked off my photoshoots again with someone who is artistic and wanted to make beauty portraits. I have a very set idea of what I want to do now, and how I want to do it. And I can't wait for the shoots I have coming up!

Much love,
Kitty xxxx

Photoshoot with Felis

Tuesday, 5 April 2016

I've photographed the lovely Felis twice before, and was happy for a chance for a third shoot. She's a Suicide Girl and also models for Zivity which is what I photograph her for.

First up, we just had to shoot something cute. These adorable fox ears from Crown & Glory were just perfect with Felis' orange hair! Add a crop top and shorts and you have adorable.

Second we moved to a bed set up I like to use, but stripped back to a raw mattress. Lacy lingerie and a relaxed look was the way to go for this set.

How sweet is that bralet? I wish there was more stuff like that in plus sizes.

Next up, floortraits! I can't resist them lately. I love a good hardwood floor and it's good fun to shoot something from a totally different perspective.

Felis is the cutest!

Sorry for the censorship, but my blog isn't adult rated! The gorgeous golden flower crown is from Liv Free Creations and was a birthday gift for me from Alivya. With Felis's pale skin and hair the gold was the perfect compliment for her.

Our final set was something totally different! My Mum had some lilies that she let me sacrifice in the name of art, and I am so glad she did! We went for art nudes in the bath, so here are just a couple of the shots I can share.

Did you know that lily pollen stains something terrible? Even your skin. Poor Felis had yellow stains all over her by the time we'd finished this set. Oops. Sorry!

We shot a behind the scenes vlog during the shoot which you can check out on my YouTube channel!

Much love,
Kitty xxxxx

Photoshoot with Paigey Christie

Sunday, 27 March 2016

I've had the gorgeous Paigey Christie on my facebook for a little while, and when she posted some lush new selfies I told her to come and get in front of my camera instead. And as luck would have it, she happened to be only an hour away from me at that particular moment so a few messages later, and the next day she was on a train to come and work with me! I love it when a surprise shoot happens!

As it was a rather last minute shoot and Paigey wasn't expecting a photoshoot, I provided the outfits from my own wardrobe, which I think worked out rather well. Depending on where you work, this may well be considered NSFW due to lingerie and implied nudity.

Pastel rainbow tutu - Tutu Factory*
Rainbow flower crown - Tutu Factory*
Bra - model's own

We went for a very un-Paige like look to start with, a cute pastel rainbow look! Isn't that tutu just gorgeous?

She's like a beautiful candy Princess.

As we shot such a cutesy look, something totally the other end of the spectrum was needed....

Black tutu - Tutu Factory*
Gothica flower crown - Tutu Factory*
Pentagram - Malice

Isn't Paige the perfect vampy gothic goddess?

And last up, we went for a bright lip and a bra with jeans. Very reminiscent of the old 90's jeans adverts.

I loved shooting with Paige. Photographing other plus size babes is so important to me, and as a photographer I feel it is my responsibility to ensure my work is diverse and celebrates all kinds of beauty.

And if you want to work with me, get in touch! kittyramblesalot@yahoo.co.uk for booking.

Much love,
Kitty xxxx

Roswell Ivory Adventures

Tuesday, 1 March 2016

Valentine's Day weekend the lovely Roswell Ivory came to stay with me for adventures and wedding planning! With Fal, one of my other bridesmaids, we had a mega trying on session and picked out a gorgeous dress for them to wear. So exciting! We hung out, ate pizza, watched movies. All that good kind of girly hang out type stuff. We also of course, squeezed in a quick photoshoot!

Latex by Yummy Gummy Latex. Isn't it so cool? I broke out my ringflash for the first time in well... at least 3 years. I know it's about that because it was in the garage rather than with my photography gear. Because I hadn't unpacked it from when we moved into our house. Oops.

Every model needs good headshots, and Roswell always photographs gorgeously. We started out with pretty makeup, and then we just had to go a little wild!

Poor Roswell got mascara in her eye doing this look. That's dedication to her art.

I couldn't decide how to edit these, so I went for a few different looks. It's such a strong makeup look I couldn't resist.

I just love that face!

Of course such an 'out there' makeup look called for a daft post-shoot selfie...

I love this girl so much. I'm so lucky that photography has brought her into my life. And to think the first time I met Roswell it was at my old job in Norwich, and I fangirled over her so bad because I loved her modelling. And now she is one of my bridesmaid! I can't wait to see her again in April for my hen do. Yay!

Much love,

Kitty xxxxx

PS. I did February's monthly favourites on YouTube instead, check it out here. I talk about the usual favourite things I got this month, and share some news, including the sudden loss of our sweet, beautiful Sinbad.

My Favourite Photos of 2015

Thursday, 7 January 2016

As many of you know, as well as being a blogger, I am also a photographer! I always like to do a blog post featuring some of my favourite photos from the year (check out 2014's post here) so here it is!

Alivya V Free in Creations by Liv Free. Beauty portraits are not my forte, so when a model trusts me with them, and we can produce results like this, I am so thrilled!

Beautiful Boneyard Belle, shot with homemade lighting gels, I love the light in the PVC.

Indie Fox was a dream to work with her, we shot a lot together than I love and I hope we get to work together again in 2016.

I love experimenting! I shot Alivya with a really cheap plastic holga lens for this, I plan to experiment more with it soon.

I worked with Dee Dixon twice in 2015, she's such a babe and so much fun! I love the arch of her back in this, and the colours!

Twig is a model I really adore, and she always has the most lush lingerie! I'm really pleased with how the post worked on this along with the incredible styling.

I love me some shiny shiny latex! Alivya is wearing Kaori's Latex Dreams in this, I love the high shine and glam.

A killer headshot with Roswell Ivory in Lady Allura's Latex. She gives such bad ass face.

The doll-faced Mary Burgers! We had about 5 minutes to get the shot before a tremendous thunderstorm hit and we got it!

A super goth model in a super pretty beauty portrait, I love the juxtaposition, and Belle is so pale and perfect.

Jessica <3 my sweet! I love a simple portrait, and I think this feels so retro in it's own way.

More gorgeous Indie Fox! She rocks her curves and has the most amazing face.

Twig serving serious face. Experimenting with tones really made an appearance in my work this year.

Dee wanted floortraits, I was so happy with how I lit this, really bright and clean!

I can never resist a classic black and white.

And finally, I got to shoot a total dream set in a swimming pool, which I have always wanted to do!

In 2016 I want to work with more plus size babes and POC, so get in touch!

Much love,
Kitty xxxx

PS. I had a terrible accident in the January sales!
