A Morris-Wood Wedding : Honeymoon Edition

Thursday 30 June 2016

Stu and I got back from our honeymoon a week ago today! I thought I'd share a few different blogs about it with reviews and info on the trips and hotel, but first a more general one about where we went and how we ended up there.

As we've been living together for years and have a house, we didn't want the traditional wedding presents. We have toastie makers, cutlery, pretty much everything you could ever need! But we have never been on holiday together as a couple. We've been away with my family or to visit Stu's family, but we have never had so much as a weekend away together. We decided that we would pop a note on our invites to say that we didn't want any presents, but if anyone did wish to get us something, a donation to our honeymoon fund would be massively appreciated.

And just wow. Thanks to our unbelievably generous family and friends we were able to go away for 2 weeks to stay at Club Blue Dreams in Bodrum, Turkey. We booked through Thomson on the Monday after the wedding, and flew out on the Thursday! It's a 4 star hotel and all inclusive. It was absolutely stunning, we couldn't have dreamed of staying somewhere more beautiful together.

Having never been on holiday together, two weeks alone was definitely going to be a total change. And it was wonderful. I've never felt so relaxed and happy. Spending so much time in each other's company was so much fun. Every morning we woke up smiling and got to be with the person we love the most all day every day. The hotel staff were fantastic, the hotel itself was immaculate, and the view from the infinity pool was something else.

The sunsets over the Aegean Sea are some of the most awe inspiring in the world. Every night we watched them and felt so lucky. The main restaurant was outside so you could truly enjoy a romantic evening together every night. It got obscenely warm towards the end of our holiday, 46 degrees in the middle of the day! If you aren't into the heat, Turkey is not the place to go in June. It is such a lush green country and the sea was so clear.

We were completely blown away by people's generosity. It can feel really cheeky asking for money, but with the right wording people totally understood and wanted to help us go away together. The sweetness of those nearest to us was more than we could ever have imagined. We are so so lucky and loved. The day after the wedding when we were opening the cards people had given us we both basically spent the afternoon crying because we were so overwhelmed at the love people had for us.

I'll be blogging in more detail about the honeymoon shortly, plus the actual wedding, and of course honeymoon outfits!

Much love,
Kitty xxxx

The Good, The Bad and the Bargains with Everything5Pounds*

Tuesday 28 June 2016

Everything5Pounds isn't necessarily a website you might think to hunt on for plus size bargains, but they actually have a whole plus size section that sells up to a size 30! You can get a lot of good basic tops as standard, simple skirts and cover ups, and if you keep an eye out, you can grab a totally amazing piece or two! But you have to be quick, there is limited stock and once it is gone, it's gone! As their name suggests, everything they sell is £5. They often have ex-stock from popular online plus size brands and last season's bargains. They recently got in touch to ask me to review a couple of pieces so I opted for a top and a pair of trousers. I've tended to always buy tops or dresses, and never bottoms from them, and you'll see why shortly.

First, the good. This is the Mesh Yoke Striped Top* and I feel like I'm rocking some sort of Dennis the Menace chic. The length is cute, it's not going to ride up too much when you raise your arms which is always nice. The lace at the neckline is adorable and makes the top a bit more dressed up, and it's a nice loose fit. I really like this. It's a statement top and could be worn day to day or really dressed up with a pair of sleek black trousers, stilettos and a pleather jacket for ultimate badassery.

And the trousers. These are the Black Striped High Waisted Trousers*. And this is the closest you'll get to a photo of them on me. They looked so lush on the website, with gold zip pocket details and a slightly cropped leg, but the sizing is absolutely bizarre. These are marked up as a 6XL and a 7XL, and are not remotely the right size. These are at least 3-4 sizes smaller than they are supposed to be. You can see how small they look compared to my shoulders! It's a shame because I really like the design, I can never resist a good pinstripe, but they are just totally the wrong size. If they fit I'd love them, but no about of dancing about and wiggling was going to get these over my thighs comfortably.

Ultimately, when something costs £5, I'm prepared to take the risk, and I won't let these trousers put me off. Be sure to read any reviews on the products that you can to help judge your size or if you want to order the item, or just go for it and you might be surprised! I've had some gorgeous dresses I love from them and this top is going to be a staple for my work wear wardrobe.

What have your experiences been of Everything5Pounds?

Much love,
Kitty xxxx

A Honeymoon OOTD with Navabi*

Sunday 26 June 2016

Our honeymoon was a total dream. More than we could ever have hoped for. I'll blog about the actual honeymoon soon, but in the mean time, here's one of my many honeymoon outfits!

Top - old, unknown
Shoes - Yours Clothing

In 40 degree heat, you want simple, cool and comfortable. This Navabi skirt was perfect for it! It's a beautiful silky material, with a fun digital print, and it sits just at knee level on my 5ft 11 frame. It has an elasticated waist which makes it really comfy to wear and it is so cool and floaty. Paired with a simple black top it made a cute and casual outfit for dinner, but could easily be dressed up for a fancier occasion.

I actually wore this twice, once in the evening, and once over my black swimming costume as a cover up on a boat trip. It was ideal for the travel as it doesn't crease which is one of my favourite things about it. I hate ironing! Knowing I didn't have to worry about it in my suitcase was awesome. It's become a key item in my wardrobe as it's so versatile. Dinner, day wear, even work wear, I love it. The pops of green and blue are so bright and fun.

I have a lot more honeymoon outfits to come! These were taken on the walkway to the lift from our hotel room. Such a gorgeous view.

Much love,
Kitty xxxx

Taking Blog Photos When You Have Fur Babies...

Tuesday 21 June 2016

A silly blog today! I'm still away on my honeymoon so thought I'd share some of the realities of taking blog photos when you have fur babies.

Sometimes your Navabi fringed jacket* might attract playful kitties who want to steal the tassels!

Or your giant dog creature might think your waving arms are calling him for fusses. Because moving arms are always for fusses.

You might set up a petal backdrop only for little ears to poke their way into the frame to bat your liquid lipsticks out of their very carefully placed spots. But a cat stealing petals is too cute to be cross!

They might even try to eat your props!

Or they might roll around at your feet looking ridiculously adorable until you give them the belly rubs they so desperately needed.

Or shout at you till you turn your camera to them instead.

And there will definitely be a few surprise butts in photos. Animals always want to show off their butts.

But it'll mean plenty of laughs while you work!

Much love,
Kitty xxxx

Matte Lips with MUA

Sunday 19 June 2016

My name is Kitty, and I am addicted to matte lips. Matte lipsticks, lip lacquers, liquid to matte gloss, I love it all. I'm forever trying new colours and brands, and my newest fave is MUA thanks to Just Me Leah. She kindly sent me 4 colours that I blogged about here, and I just had to get more.

This time I decided to try 2 different products, more of the velvet lip lacquers in more muted colours than the ones I have, and also the matte lipstick.

I love lip lacquers, but I was keen to try the lipsticks as I think for a day to day they are more comfortable than a matte liquid lip. The lip lacquers come in a matte packaging that I love, with a gold top and matte tube. They have either a black or gold top, and this time all the colours I ordered happened to have a gold top. The lipsticks come in a cute white case with silver font and accents, and the bottom of the tubes show the colour contained within, which is a touch I always like. It's much easier to spot a coloured end than a lipstick name when rooting around in your handbag.

How pretty is that matte packaging? I love the style of the font too, it looks very high end for a product that costs £3 a pop!

This time I opted to get more natural tones as Leah had sent me 4 very bright colours. 3 are more typical 'nude' colours, and the other 2 were a bit brighter. The names are all really cute, and I've swatched them in the same order I've photographed above to help you be able to identify them easily.

I like to do a jazzy shape when I swatch lately and these are my attempts at lightening bolts... don't judge me. I'm sure most people use a template! I just don't have a steady enough hand to draw properly. These velvet lip lacquers have a slightly moussey formula and are very creamy. They dry totally matte and smudge proof which is always a good thing.

The three nudes have similar tones but are very different. Harmony is the shade furthest left, and it's a light brown tone with cool tones. Next is Tranquility which is much more of a light brown and my personal favourite of the three natural colours. The final muted colour is Halcyon which has a slight coral tone to the brown. All of these are swatched in single layer to show the truest pigmentation I can. I'm very impressed with all 3! I think Harmony will probably be a little too light for my personal tastes so I suspect my Mum will want to swipe that off me.

Dash and Moxie are more pink toned and less neutral. Dash is the brown toned pink and Moxie is a blue toned pink rose colour. Both again are swatched in one layer. I think Dash will become one of my day to day colours, it's beautiful. I love the tones of it so much.

Here are all 5 swatches under a flash, the above swatches are in natural light. I think you can see more clearly in this shot the different between the 3 natural tones.

And these swatches are of the matte lipsticks. These are so soft and feel great on the lips, very moisturing whilst still being matte. Again I opted for some more natural tones, and also a purple, which I can never resist!

These matte lipsticks are only £1 each, so if you want to try out a matte lip these are a bargain. Top is Totally Nude which is a very light brown creamy colour, and bottom is Fawn Fancy a more middle toned brown, Unlike the lip lacquers these aren't smudge proof, but I have yet to find a matte lipstick that is.

The lilac colour is called Lilac Belle and is more pink toned than I expected, but I think it'll be a really fun colour for summer. These aren't as pigmented as the lacquers, but again, I wouldn't expect them to do as a lipstick. With lip lacquers you usually aren't going to have to reapply during the day unless you eat oily or greasy food, but the lipsticks definitely need reapplying to keep their pigmentation.

I'm really impressed with the MUA matte lip ranges, especially the velvet lip lacquers. The packaging is totally adorable and the pigmentation is fantastic. I can't recommend them enough for the price range they are!

What are your favourite matte lip colours and brands? I always want to try more.

Much love,

Guest Post : Miss Kitty Kaos on Body Positivity

Tuesday 14 June 2016

Hey Cats,

As the lovely Kitty Rambles is off getting married I jumped forward to guest post because Kitty is pretty rad and we share a love of alternative make up/fashion and True Romance! I am sure you're all with me when I say a huge congratulations and are waiting eagerly to see pictures and posts about the big day.

Well I am Kitty Kaos and I blog over at Adventures Of  A Riot Grrrl (http://www.adventuresofariotgrrrl.com/) I blog about fashion, feminism and more. I haven't always been very body positive and grew up the fat grrrl. All my friends were super slim and I felt like I stuck out like a sore thumb and then I discovered the amazing world of riot grrrl packed full of kick ass women who didn't care what the world thought of them and weren't afraid to speak their minds. So I am going to share some things I have learnt along the way.

The media around us today is becoming a little more inclusive but there are always huge slip ups that when faced with it can hit you. Like when self centred you tubers make horrible videos or a brand you follow posts a negative tweet. You can suddenly feel like you're back at the start.  What a lot of people don't tell you is that's normal. Body positivity is a journey and it takes time to build but slowly you start to notice yourself making small steps like wearing a sleeveless dress or not wearing leggings. You know what you discover when you do? The world doesn't stop spinning, nobody points and laughs at you and on those sunny days you are so much cooler it can be so liberating and freeing that you may find yourself never looking back.

Experiment with fashion that you never would have dreamt of trying. You may never have thought of trying a bodycon dress or a tube skirt or even wore a dress at all. For the longest time I told myself I couldn't wear dresses I was that mopey teenage girl who wore baggy jeans and big band T shirts to try and hide the fact that I was fat. Let me tell you a secret...your body shape will still be there and you will still have lumps and bumps but dressing them in clothes that make you feel amazing will make you feel so much better about yourself. One day that mopey teenager saw a dress and thought what the hell and tried it on and never looked back. Now I constantly push my own boundaries and keep surprising myself. Sometimes I love the things I try and sometimes I don't but that is all part of the fun!

Ignore the labels, honestly it sounds crazy but I can wear anything from a size 18-24 depending on where I am shopping. So many shops get their sizing so wrong. Which is why bloggers are great to follow because we will tell you if an item comes up small or big. Don't  take it personally if you put on a dress and it is a size that scares you. You don't have to share that with anyone else if you don't want to. Most importantly look at how it fits you and how it makes you feel once you take the labels away. Instead of focusing on the negatives think of the positives, does it make your bum look awesome? Or is the most comfortable wearable skirt you ever found, even better if the answer is both!

Surround yourself with positive influence. If you find that magazines you're reading aren't making you happy or representing you then find new ones. I love reading fanzines, blogs and Slink magazine caters for plus size awesomeness. Social media can be a great place to dive into as there are so many body positive and welcoming communities now like #pizzasisters4lyfe or #whatfatgirlsactuallywear. Go drool over the awesome style and start planning your next killer outfit. You can find me on Instagram too (https://instagram.com/misskittykaos/) come and say hi. There are also some amazing artists you can find on social media like Melly-Em Clark (https://www.etsy.com/uk/people/mellyemclark) and Murder of Goths (http://murderofgoths.co.uk/). When you surround yourself with positive media and people you will feel a lot happier inside and out.

Most importantly remember that beauty comes in all shapes and sizes. You're beautiful and you deserve to be happy we only have one life so start living it!

Do you have any tips for body positivity or a story to share?

Guest Post : Busy Little Fee on Weddings

Sunday 12 June 2016

I always find it funny when people ask for photos of fat brides etc, because I never thought of myself as one – I was just Sophie, who was getting married. But as body positivity becomes more and more accessible to the masses, the idea that everybody is entitled to exist exactly as they are is sneaking across into the bridal sector. And I couldn’t be more thrilled.

As a bride-to-be, you get all the usual questions – “have you set a date?”, “how did he ask?” and then the only question anybody actually cares about: “did you find your dress?”. That’s right – not ‘a dress’, but ‘your dress’ because much like soulmates, your ideal match is out there somewhere and completely irreplaceable.  Personally, this makes me a little bit sad when I think about planning my wedding. I was still very much getting used to being acceptable as I am, and I was terrified of visiting a dress shop to be told that nothing would fit me and leave there red-faced and empty-handed. So I never got to visit one dress shop. Yep, that’s right. I never took my Mum and best friend to sit in the waiting room, poised and ready to gasp at my beauty. It never happened, and maybe because I thought that even if something did fit me, I would definitely not look like a beauty.

I blogged about my ‘stress with the dress’, because nothing I was finding was quite what I had in mind. In the end I decided to go for a Honeypie Boutique custom made dress, which was around £150, and an ASOS one-shoulder dress for the registry office the day before our ‘service’. While it fit me perfectly and was in tone with my wedding, I do have little heart-pangs when I see the dresses available to size 24+ brides that there are now. I haven’t even been married a year, and there are gorgeous options, actual bridal shops and everything! Shopping for my dress 100% made me feel less than worthy, and it is my only sad memory of wedding planning. Perhaps I will have a vow renewal in 2025 and there will be ALL kinds of options!

My next disappointment was very much to do with shoes. Now, this isn’t strictly because of my size. There were lots of beautiful wedding shoes available to people with extra wide feet. My issue was that I didn’t want pretty white court shoes, or anything with a heel. I had a redneck garden party as my reception, and this hillbilly needed some white cowboy boots! I was unable to find anything within my budget, in the UK, which fit my 19” calves. After months of trying, I gave up. I ended up getting some little brown shoes from Tesco. They did fine, but again, they weren’t my ideal wedding shoes. Yes my needs were specific (though I did eventually relent and say I’d accept shoes that weren’t white, as long as they fit!) but I felt like I was constantly “just too big” for everything I liked. It was so easy to get demoralised, and in that awful headspace where you want to punish your body just for existing.

ENTER, UNDIES. Wedding underwear is a must – and ladies, you’re in luck! There are gorgeous underwear sets for big ladies, many many specialist sites and an increasing number of high street stores who are selling us extended hip, cup and back sizes for the same price as we’d have paid if we were straight sized. And I kind of feel like if wedding planning is making you feel frustrated and held back because of your body’s mere existence, get your mojo back by throwing on some gorgeous undies. Revel in the way your body looks. Stand in front of the mirror and practise your poses. Love every fold, every squishy bit, every soft curve. Bam. You’re wedding-night ready.

The only other aspect of the wedding day that I have heard of people worrying about is sweat. Now, my wedding was a little different because it was outdoors and it was literally on the hottest afternoon of 2015 (clearly I prayed to the God of Summer just a little too hard when I asked for no rain…) so I basically dripped sweat the entire time and my thighs were chafed to buggery for a week or so afterwards – yes I was wearing shorts under my dress! – but to be completely honest, your wedding could be in mid-December and sweating is just something that is going to happen. You’re usually in a fitted dress for a start, but even without the dress you’re surrounded by a bunch of people, you’re moving around constantly, chatting to everybody, having cuddles and kisses – it is just going to be a sweaty day. In fact, most hair and make up artists will tell you they’re doing certain things to counteract sweat in pictures etc, which goes to show that every bride worries about and probably experiences wedding-day sweat!

Finally, dieting. I never considered dieting for my wedding. I think pre-wedding crash diets are absolutely heart-breaking, and the idea of adding pressure to this already stressful time for the sake of a smaller dress or “better photos” honestly makes me feel really sad. I cannot stress this enough: if you are a plus size bride (or a straight-sized one, for that matter) losing weight is not an expected element of wedding preparation. Please don’t feel pressured. Please deflect questions, if anybody is rude enough to ask you any, by saying “I want to marry my husband/wife as the person I am, and the person I intend to be for the rest of my life”. And then get to your wedding, dance the night away and have the time of your life. Congratulations!

Vegan Cruelty Free Skincare With The Jojoba Company*

Tuesday 7 June 2016

One of my very favourite things I've discovered in the last few years is Jojoba oil (pronounced ho-ho-ba). It has so many different uses, so when I got the chance to try out The Jojoba Company's new jojoba and rose hip oil* I couldn't resist.

First of all, how cute is this bottle? The brushed pink is just adorable. It also came in a really sweet mirror box but it got a bit bashed about in transport to me so didn't photograph well. Lemmy Katmister rather liked how shiny it was and helpfully bashed in a corner of it before I got chance to photograph it the naughty thing!

Jojoba is an incredible moisturiser, it is hypoallergenic, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and so much more, you can read all about it here. It is full of vitamin A, D and E, as well as omega 6 & 9, properly good stuff. Rose hip oil is also full of lovely stuff making them a brilliant combination. Have you got stretched ears? Jojoba oil is the single best thing you could possibly use in your lobes to keep them healthy and avoid that stretched ear smell (you know the one I mean!)

It comes with a really handy dropper so help you only use the product you need which is fantastic, as you only need a couple of drops. This design helps stop you wasting any oil as a little truly does go a long long way. I use this oil on my lobes to keep them in tip-top shape as well as to moisture the really dry patches of skin I get on my face. I've used it on my eyelids as they get really dry and it's caused me no problems near my ultra sensitive eyes.

I really really love this product. It's pretty to look at which is always a bonus, and it does wonders for my skin and ears. Have you ever used jojoba oil? Let me know!

Much love,
Kitty xxxx

Glam Rock Queen with Navabi*

Sunday 5 June 2016

Sometimes you see an item of clothing and just fall totally in love and know you must be together. This happened with the Fringed faux suede cut out cover-up* from Navabi. We were meant to be. I love fringing. I love faux suede. We needed each other.

Dress - CowCow Clothing
Fringed faux suede cut out cover-up* - Navabi
Boots - Demonia

I mean you guys. You can't tell me that I don't look like the glam rock Stevie Nicks here. It's magnificent. The dress was a total unexpected bargain. Corissa from Fat Girl Flow shared a video on YouTube wearing a dress from CowCow who are on Amazon and I immediately had to go and hunt them out. They sell skater and A-line dresses in up to a 3XL that are actually pretty true to size. This was only $18.99, which is about £13. Well worth the risk at that price, and I will totally be buying more from them soon. It's a lycra type material, and I'm 5ft 11 so it's a good length too.

Now on to the important part of this outfit. That incredible fringed cover up. I love fringing. I love twirling. It's a perfect combination. It's faux suede and also available in grey which is lush too. It has little laser cut outs all over which add a really interesting dimension to the cover up.

Lemmy also loves fringing. My twirling attracted him so we had to have a sneaky photo together. We're so cute. I really like the length of this cover up, sometimes they are just a bit too long and end up catching on everything but because this is a bit shorter I haven't managed to catch on anything yet.

Looking back, my enthusiastic poses to show off the fringing are a bit 'Goodbye horses'... However, that's how much I love this look. Because this is faux suede it actually gives a surprising amount of warmth, so this is going to become my go to jacket for those summer barbecues that linger on into the night. It is also soooooo soft. So soft. Like a kitten.

I felt so glam rock and awesome in this look. I plan on picking up more of these dresses from CowCow and rocking this cover up all summer long!

Much love,
Kitty xxxx

A Morris-Wood Wedding : Preventing Chub Rub With Chaffree*

Thursday 2 June 2016

There are so many things you have to think about on your wedding day. Will everyone turn up that we've paid a fortune to feed? Will the weather stay nice? Will all the DIY we've done be worth it? The last thing any body needs to be worrying about on their big day is chub rub. Chaffing. Thigh rubbing. No matter your dress size, it happens. No bride or groom needs to be worrying about thigh friction on their big day.

Step in Chaffree. Chaffree make make briefs and boxers designed for men and women in a variety of designs to help keep you comfy during the summer season. They are made of a material called Coolmax which is designed to pull moisture away from the skin and help keep you cool. I opted to try out the knickerboxer style in the longer length of 8 inches in black.

To really know if something like this works, you need to wear it for a full day, in the heat, with plenty of walking around. I wanted to be able to give the most honest review I could, so I've worn them for 2 days to really see if they work. And guys... I am so so impressed. I've tried cutting leggings off, I've tried cycling shorts, and none of them are remotely comparable.

Because of the material these knickerboxers are made of they don't budge. I've worn them pulled right down stretched out, and also pulled them up a little to make them a tad shorter, and once I'd put the where I wanted, they didn't move. They are really light and comfortable, it felt so freeing to have my knees out and not have to worry about my thighs! They are a really stretchy and breathable fabric, so comfy in the heat too, and they don't leave marks or imprints because of the lightweight stretch material.

And no chub rub. Not at all. I forgot I was wearing them to be quite honest, which is always a good thing. I plan on investing in a few pairs of these in different colours. They come in black which I opted for as most of my clothes are black. They also sell them in a mocha colour, white, and a light pink. That they come in a mocha colour is great, they might not have a nude for all skin colours but the mocha is a much better option than just the traditional 'nude' that most companies offer that is useless to anyone who isn't white.  I am so impressed with these and can't recommend them enough!

There are 2 lengths, 2 waist heights, you can buy multipacks in one colour or mulitple colours. They sell options for both men and women, so if you're a guy fretting about chub rub under your kilt on your big day, Chaffree have got you covered with their long boxer short designs! Their size range is really inclusive, from a size 6 up to a size 34 for women, and from a 28 inch waist up to a 54 inch waist for men.

Chub rub can happen to anyone, don't let it ruin your wedding day! I'll be rocking these under my wedding dress, and knowing I don't have to worry about chub rub, or flashing my knickers with over enthusiastic dancing is awesome!

Much love,
Kitty xxxx
