Matte Lips with MUA

Sunday, 19 June 2016

My name is Kitty, and I am addicted to matte lips. Matte lipsticks, lip lacquers, liquid to matte gloss, I love it all. I'm forever trying new colours and brands, and my newest fave is MUA thanks to Just Me Leah. She kindly sent me 4 colours that I blogged about here, and I just had to get more.

This time I decided to try 2 different products, more of the velvet lip lacquers in more muted colours than the ones I have, and also the matte lipstick.

I love lip lacquers, but I was keen to try the lipsticks as I think for a day to day they are more comfortable than a matte liquid lip. The lip lacquers come in a matte packaging that I love, with a gold top and matte tube. They have either a black or gold top, and this time all the colours I ordered happened to have a gold top. The lipsticks come in a cute white case with silver font and accents, and the bottom of the tubes show the colour contained within, which is a touch I always like. It's much easier to spot a coloured end than a lipstick name when rooting around in your handbag.

How pretty is that matte packaging? I love the style of the font too, it looks very high end for a product that costs £3 a pop!

This time I opted to get more natural tones as Leah had sent me 4 very bright colours. 3 are more typical 'nude' colours, and the other 2 were a bit brighter. The names are all really cute, and I've swatched them in the same order I've photographed above to help you be able to identify them easily.

I like to do a jazzy shape when I swatch lately and these are my attempts at lightening bolts... don't judge me. I'm sure most people use a template! I just don't have a steady enough hand to draw properly. These velvet lip lacquers have a slightly moussey formula and are very creamy. They dry totally matte and smudge proof which is always a good thing.

The three nudes have similar tones but are very different. Harmony is the shade furthest left, and it's a light brown tone with cool tones. Next is Tranquility which is much more of a light brown and my personal favourite of the three natural colours. The final muted colour is Halcyon which has a slight coral tone to the brown. All of these are swatched in single layer to show the truest pigmentation I can. I'm very impressed with all 3! I think Harmony will probably be a little too light for my personal tastes so I suspect my Mum will want to swipe that off me.

Dash and Moxie are more pink toned and less neutral. Dash is the brown toned pink and Moxie is a blue toned pink rose colour. Both again are swatched in one layer. I think Dash will become one of my day to day colours, it's beautiful. I love the tones of it so much.

Here are all 5 swatches under a flash, the above swatches are in natural light. I think you can see more clearly in this shot the different between the 3 natural tones.

And these swatches are of the matte lipsticks. These are so soft and feel great on the lips, very moisturing whilst still being matte. Again I opted for some more natural tones, and also a purple, which I can never resist!

These matte lipsticks are only £1 each, so if you want to try out a matte lip these are a bargain. Top is Totally Nude which is a very light brown creamy colour, and bottom is Fawn Fancy a more middle toned brown, Unlike the lip lacquers these aren't smudge proof, but I have yet to find a matte lipstick that is.

The lilac colour is called Lilac Belle and is more pink toned than I expected, but I think it'll be a really fun colour for summer. These aren't as pigmented as the lacquers, but again, I wouldn't expect them to do as a lipstick. With lip lacquers you usually aren't going to have to reapply during the day unless you eat oily or greasy food, but the lipsticks definitely need reapplying to keep their pigmentation.

I'm really impressed with the MUA matte lip ranges, especially the velvet lip lacquers. The packaging is totally adorable and the pigmentation is fantastic. I can't recommend them enough for the price range they are!

What are your favourite matte lip colours and brands? I always want to try more.

MUA Luxe Liquid Lip Lacquers

Tuesday, 24 May 2016

I cannot resist matte liquid lipsticks and lip products. They are pretty much all I wear these days, so when I get to try out another cruetly free brand I leap at the chance! The lovely Leah of Just Me Leah very kindly sent me these to cheer me up a little while ago because she's a total sweetheart. Her blog is awesome, so you should totally go check it out. I couldn't resist holding off on photographing them and swatching them properly for my blog so it's taken me a little while to use them, but here are the MUA Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquers and my thoughts on them.

The actual lip lacquers come in these little cardboard boxes. These are a little bashed about due to their travels and also me keeping them in them till I got chance to photograph them.

The back of each of the boxes tells you the colour contained within and a little about the product themselves. They claim to be smudge proof so I had to give them a proper test run.

The four colours Leah kindly sent me are left to right; Criminal, Funk, Atomic and Kooky.

The packaging is a frosted matte tube and they have a sticker on the bottom with their name too. I really like the matte effect of the tubes. The colour has separated a little in the tubes but each is really full of product.

I've swatched them in the same order I photographed them in above. Criminal is a really bright classic Barbie pink, Funk is a gorgeous rose toned shade, Atomic is a fab orangey red, and Kooky is a blackcurrant purple. The applicator is a soft doe's foot style which I personally prefer for liquid lipstick.

Here are close ups of Atomic and Kooky. The colours are all really opaque which impressed me, especially as purple tones tend to be trickier for brands to get right. Atomic is more orangey in person than in this photo.

Criminal and Funk again are both really opaque. All of their formulas are nice and creamy and dry in about a minute. All of these photos are just one coat of the product! I was really impressed with how soft they felt, a lot of liquid lipsticks feel like they are going to be drying but these don't. As for their claim to be smudge proof... they really are! I gave them a good press and rub on my arm and they didn't shift. You will need a good oil product for removal because they are so smudge proof!

In all, I am seriously loving these lip lacquers and at £3 a pop they are a complete bargain, I will definitely be trying more of their shades. They have a range of really bright shades, as well as more classic nudes and some funkier tones like lilac and black too.

Have you tried any MUA products before? What is your favourite? I'd never tried any of their products before and really want to try more now.

Much love,
Kitty xxxxx

Makeup Revolution Haul & Swatches II

Sunday, 28 February 2016

My name is Kitty and I am addicted to Makeup Revolution. Third was my third order, and it certainly won't be my last! This time I had a very specific item I wanted to order in basically every colour option I could, the velvet matte lip lacquer. It has very quickly become my favourite lip product ever and I can't resist them.

I maybe kind of ordered a few.... I ordered a variety of different colours including some that were quite 'out there' for me.

L-R
A Love Like That
Depravity
I Fall in Love
No Ordinary Love
What I Believe
All That I Have Inside
Barely There
More Than I Could Give

I just love the names!

The swatch left to right matches the order of the photos above. So the first thing to note is that I'm kind of an idiot. I assumed that all the products called a lip lacquer were matte, they are not! The velvet ones are matte, and the intense ones are a gloss. So I ordered these expecting all matte and they aren't, totally my own fault! Most of the shades actually come in both a velvet and intense finish, so do pay more attention that I did when I placed this order. A Love Like That, All That I Have Inside, More Than I Could Give are both actually the gloss versions, which is why they swatch totally differently to the others. I also resolve to do much bigger swatches in the inevitable next Makeup Revolution haul I do!

This is I Fall in Love, super bright pink and awesome staying power.

Depravity! I think this might be a good dupe for Jeffree Star's Blow Pony. So different and fun. I wore this look on just a regular day, because why not! I basically plan on treating the lip lacquers like Pokemon and will collect them all! For £3 each I can't resist.

I ordered a couple of others bits too, including the Awesome Metals Eye Foils in Rose Gold.

These are a really unusual product. They come with a little silver dish that you mix the foil in with the liquid and it applies so brightly and stay so well.

L-R
Pro E103 Eyeshadow Blending Brush
Pro F103 Stippling Brush
Pro E101 Eyeshadow Brush

Cruelty free, fur free brushes can be hard to come by, and these are really soft.

I've wanted to try a stripping brush for foundation for a while, I don't wear it often but I'm trying to be better at makeup and good brushes seemed like a good place to start.

What are your favourite Makeup Revolution products?

Much love,

December and January Favourites

Sunday, 31 January 2016

I didn't do a December favourites blog post, as instead I did a Christmas haul on my YouTube channel to show you what I got. So now January is at it's close I thought I'd get back to it! I'm going to share a variety of things I picked up between December and January, but not anything I got for Christmas, as I've talked about them on YouTube.

I have become totally obsessed with the app Neko Atsume. It's like, my idea of heaven. You set up toys and food in your yard to lure cats in to play and try to collect them all! It's so cute, and you can take photos of the adorable visitors you get. There are certain themed rare cats that are just adorable and need special toys and food to lure them in. So obviously I've dedicated all my spare time to finding them!

I picked up this adorable faux suede skater skirt in the New Look sale for only £6! I think it's the sort of piece that I'll be able to wear throughout the year in every season. It's very comfy, super cute and a really nice length.

As ever, my Crown & Glory Glitterati subscription box was a total win, with this adorable cloud hair clip/brooch being my stand out piece from it. It's so cute! And has been rather apt for the weather this month. You can see everything I got in this box in my unboxing video on YouTube here.

OK, so I said I wasn't going to feature any Christmas presents, but this one deserves a special mention! My Mum picked me up this Barry M Nail Corrector Pen and it's brilliant. I love painting my nails, but I am terrible at it, as evidenced in the photo on the left. This pen cleaned my shocking paint job up so quickly, and it smells like melons!

These holographic ASOS sneakers are a dream. I have been lusting after a pair of iridescent/holographic shoes for the longest time, and finally found these in the men's section in a size that would actually fit me, yay!

I have fallen totally in love with Makeup Revolution Lip Lacquer. In this photo I'm wearing 'Keep lying for you'. They are super pigmented and last incredibly well. I bought 3, and ordered a few more straight away.

I bought this adorable velveteen dress in both red and black from Everything5Pounds. I love the 3/4 sleeves and the mini dress length, and what a bargain at £5. It's a different shape to what I would usually wear too which is always good to mix up.

Yours Clothing Ankle Boots with Cleated Heels

I grabbed these in the January sale and I've worn them so much. Now I know Yours Clothing do a size 10 I'm forever checking out their site!

I actually bought this in summer last year, but only just got around to hanging it. It was bought from Ebay, and I love it. However Stu hates it haha! So I decided that the room I use for my YouTube filming is the perfect spot for it, so he doesn't have to look at it and I can all the time! It's so amazingly over the top, like an ugly jumper that rocks.

What bargains did you pick up this month?

Makeup Revolution Haul & Swatches

Sunday, 17 January 2016

One of my favourite new companies of 2015 was Makeup Revolution. They are a UK based company who are cruelty free! This was my second order after I loved the first so much and I couldn't resist their January sale.

One of the things that I love the most that they do, is their palettes. I have so many now and I can't stop lusting after more!

I Heart Sin Palette

First off, how lush is this packaging? I love the purple heart on this. It contains 16 palettes, a mirror and a double ended smudger foam brush.

This palette has a real mix of colours, with some incredibly bright mattes, some shimmers, and some more normal matte shades too. Having such a mixture might seem a bit of an odd choice, but actually, there are groups of colours that would work so well together, making this an ideal palette for travelling light.

I decided to swatch 3 of the bright mattes, and 3 of the shimmers. The bronze shimmer hasn't shown up so well on camera, but it looked amazing! I'm not much of one for bronze or gold tones, but Makeup Revolution have really converted me. The bright matte pink in particular was seriously impressive in how pigmented it was, these could be built up so easily.

5 Baked Eyeshadows - Electric Dreams

Baked eyeshadow was a new discovery for me last year, and in my first Makeup Revolution order I snagged myself one of these baked sets and loved it so much I had to get some more. The colours work so well together and again are ideal for travel with their small size.

How beautiful are these colours? I tend to use eyeshadow as eyeliner as I am terrible at applying eyeliner, and sets like this are ideal for that.

5 Baked Eyeshadows - Bang Bang

I also opted for this more blue toned baked set as I thought it would look gorgeous for a good smokey eye.

And look at these swatches! I can't wait to create a look with this.

I am Sexy Palette

The I Am range is a 6 eyeshadow palette and a lipstick in a certain theme. This aims to create a smokey eye with a vampy red lip. These would make really cute presents, and are easy to pop in your handbag.

L-R
Awesome Metals Eye Foils Pure Platinum
Awesome Metals Eye Foils Black Diamond

I couldn't resist ordering these to try out! These foils are super intense metallics and I cannot wait to give these a go. I didn't swatch them as they involve mixing the foil with primer, however I have done a very quick look with them.

This took me minutes and still came out really nicely, with a bit more care and attention you could easily do a very pigmented and sparkly look.

L-R
Ultra Velour Lip Cream in Don't bring me down
Ultra Velour Lip Cream in Not one for playing games
Salvation Velvet Lip Lacquer in Vamp
Salvation Velvet Lip Lacquer in Rebel
Salvation Velvet Lip Lacquer in Keep lying for you

Matte lips were huge in 2015, and that trend isn't going anywhere this year. These are only £3 each (I got them on sale at £1.50!) and tend to sell out really quickly, so I snagged 5 because well... it would be rude not to! I love all the sassy names!

How lush are these? I prefer the finish of the lip lacquers to the lip creams, and they are SO pigmented. The very first day I wore one of the lip lacquers I ended up helping my Auntie order some and my Mum is desperate for them.

Wearing 'Vamp'

Wearing 'Rebel'

This is 'Keep lying for you' and I look damn cute in it! My eyes in this are the Pure Platinum foil I mentioned above.

This lip lacquer has serious staying power. These photos were taken at 8:30, then 10:30, 14:30, and 17:30. I ate wearing it, drank hot and cold drinks and had a hideous cold so blew my nose a lot. I was so impressed. You can't ask for more for £3. The top 2 photos are lit with natural light, the bottom two are artificial which is why my skin tone changes slightly, no editing here.

I am sure it won't be too long before I make another order from Makeup Revolution, they are so well priced and such good quality, and being cruelty free they are a total dream! What are your favourite items that they make?

Much love,
Kitty xxxx

I was so impressed. You can't ask for more for £3. The top 2 photos are lit with natural light, the bottom two are artificial which is why my skin tone changes slightly, no editing here.

I am sure it won't be too long before I make another order from Makeup Revolution, they are so well priced and such good quality, and being cruelty free they are a total dream! What are your favourite items that they make?

Much love,
Kitty xxxx
