Little Black Dress

Tuesday 27 May 2014

Everyone loves a little black dress, and this is my new favourite. As soon as I saw this dress on the ASOS website I had to have it. I LOVE off the shoulder styles, they make me feel like Alabama Worley. This dress has already sold out, so I was so glad I bought it as soon as I saw it. Stu and I were going out for a curry with my parents, so something comfy but cute was perfect.

Thanks to my love Stu for the full length photo!

I like to be super classy and wear a clashing bra underneath it. I have a smaller cup size but a larger back size so often struggle, but Asda is my lifesaver lately! I wear leggings with everything, plain black ones, but with this dress it seemed too much, so I went on the hunt for some fun ones! These tartan ones are ASOS Curve Leggings in Tartan Check Print and are currently on sale. They are made of a really nice, soft material that I think is going to wash so well, very pleased I paid a little more for them than I usually would leggings.

Super cute leggings from ASOS, and Demonia sneakers.

Since the dress made me feel like Alabama Worley, a True Romance inspired necklace was a must! This is a custom Sugar & Vice necklace, it is a variation on their Personalised Heart Banner Necklace, but mine is larger. It says 'You're so cool' :D

I really need to do my roots and redye my hair, but I like the weird mix of colours it has gone right now!

My first tattoo!

Tuesday 20 May 2014

I have been planning my first tattoo for a long time, in fact, this month it will be 9 years since I started planning it. 9 years ago this month, on the 26th, it will be 9 years since I lost a close friend. We both shared a love of butterflies, so it always seemed fitting that my tribute to Jess would be a butterfly.

I'm 26, a lot of people I know are in the process of getting their tattoo work covered up or reworked because they got it young, and just let anyone do it. I didn't want to be that girl. In the town I live in, there aren't any tattoo artists I would trust for what I wanted, so I waited. And I waited, and one day I came across the perfect person on instagram. That person is Keely Rutherford, I totally fell in love with her work, but sucks to be me, she is based in London. So I figured I would have to wait some more and save up extra much, but then Keely announced that she would be guesting in a few studio's up north, perfect! As soon as Loaded Forty Four in Manchester was announced, I booked in. Excitement!

Bottom right, it had to be mine! All designs Copyright Keely Rutherford

Initially, I had plans for a different first tattoo, but as time went on, I realised that my first tattoo had to be my butterfly, it just had to. So when I saw Keely post up some of her designs that she wanted to tattoo, I snapped up this butterfly, it was just perfect!

So the day finally came and Stu took the day off so he could drive me, the sweetheart. It was torrential rain and then bright sunshine the whole way resulting in pretty rainbows :D

off we go!

We got there nice and early, armed with sandwiches, energy drinks, pepsi and sweet snacks just in case my blood sugar levels got low while I was getting tattooed. The staff at Loaded Forty Four were all total sweethearts, they were all excited for me getting my first tattoo and made us feel well at home. I would totally recommend them!

Getting there with the outline!

And then finally, it was down to business. Keely redrew the tattoo a slightly different size, we got the position sorted, I requested some pastel greens and purples, but other than that let Keely have free reign on the colour. She even added these awesome bits of white ink to make parts of it look glittery, how cool is that?! Two and a half hours later (no breaks for me!) and we are done, the only bits that made me think ouch were the bits closest the crease of my knee, more tender skin.

Outline done, with some green outline too :D

This photo of it is fresh, it's still healing at the moment, just a little bit at the bottom to go :D

Seriously, how beautiful is my leg?

I was recommend bepanthon (which is a nappy cream) which has worked awesomely for me, it kept it well moisturised, no scabbing, and in the week and a half since I got it done it's nearly completely healed. Yay!

The lovely Keely working on my leg

I am already booked in again with Keely when she guest spots at another studio in Leeds to start on my other leg, can't wait! Keely is totally adorable, really professional, always checking if you are ok or need a break, and she made getting my first tattoo a wonderful experience. My butterfly was the perfect tribute to Jess, thank you Keely! <3 <3

You're So Cool

Monday 12 May 2014

So anyone who spends any real amount of time with me knows I am a huge fan of True Romance. For me, it is the ultimate love story, Clarence and Alabama Worley inspire me! I love Alabama's fashion sense too. I have a few different items of jewellery inspired by my love of True Romance :D and plans for more!

This necklace says 'You're so cool' and is from Sugar & Vice, it is custom version of their Personalised Heart Banner necklace.

My love Stu got me this amazing Bete Noire Jewellery necklace for my birthday :D It reads 'You're so cool' and features the cherub that Clarence and Alabama get tattooed on them :D

I also own this amazing True Romance poster from Minimalist Movie Prints, it's going to go up in mine and Stu's bedroom as soon as I get a couple more prints framed.

In our front room we also have this original True Romance poster from when it first came out on VHS, I hunted for one of these high and low for Stu one year for Christmas :D it has pride of place!

I wish I had a bigger collection! Here is some other stuff I love <3

True Romance ring from CherryPiePunk

I also have plans to start a True Romance themed tattoo since I got my first one last week and got the bug! (Blog post on that coming soon)

Tie Dye Magic

Wednesday 7 May 2014

So I had this blue dress that I got last year from New Look that I love the style of, but find totally boring, because blue is so not my thing.

This is the blue dress, I always feel a little blah when I wear it, but  it has this cute hemline that is shorter at the sides and longer at the front and back. Oh, my awesome shark necklace is from Sugar & Vice, I love it!

So, what to do? I've worn it a fair bit so it's gotten a little worn which just made my desire to wear it even less, but that hemline, I wanted to be able to wear it! So, after a slight hair dying accident ruining one of my tshirts I decided to give tie dying a go. I used to tie dye everything as a hippy teenager, so I knew how to do it straight away :)

And this is how it came out! So happy with it :D (shoes are second hand fake converses I bought from a friend)

How did I do it? It's easy!

First get a bucket you don't mind getting bleach in, a full bottle of bleach, gloves and hair bobbles. Depending on how patterned you want the item of clothing to be will depend on how you do the next part. Take a section of the dress, twist it up, fold it over, and use a hair bobble to secure it. Take bigger sections if you want bigger patterns, like the one at the bottom of the dress. Do this all over the garment, once I had done this to the majority of the dress I also twisted the whole dress loosely as well. Take the bucket, and put a small amount of water in it, enough to get the garment all wet and no more. Put the gloves on, take care as you do not want to get bleach on your skin! Pour the bleach so it totally soaks the whole garment, now leave it for a bit! Keep a close eye on the item as different colours and materials will lose colour at different speeds. This dress I had in the bleach for the length of Game of Thrones, I checked on it in the adverts haha, once I realised it was going a pink colour in places I also made sure to turn over the dress so both sides sat in the bleach for an even length of time. Once I was happy with it, I took it out of the bleach (still in gloves), and gave it a good rinse under the tap for about 10 minutes. I also put it in the wash for a quick 30 minute wash (on a cool temperature as that is all I use the washing machine on) to make sure all the bleach was gone.

I wore it today with my Mermaid necklace from Sugar & Vice, and matched it with pink and blue eye shadow from Sugarpill. I love to match!

I am so loving how this came out, I am planning on getting another dress I've seen specifically to tie dye soon :D

Trick or Treat

Saturday 3 May 2014

Now this, this is a favourite outfit of mine, but this is the only photo I have of it at the moment, as the skirt needs some repairing due to getting caught on a door, grr!

I love Halloween themed clothes. Every year I try to find cute Halloween themed clothes I can wear all year round, my inner goth kid loves it. This Trick or Treat vest top is from New Look last year. The text is glow in the dark! It's a slouchy style which I wouldn't normally wear, so I actually wear it tucked into this skirt, which is a midi length, also from New Look last year.

My aaaaaaamazing necklace is of course, Sugar & Vice. It is the Pastel Cross Charm Necklace, I love how it hangs, total pastel goth love for it.

My boots are my trusty Demonia Disorder 301 Black Matte Lace Up Chain high calf boots that I always wear.

My denim jacket is my pride and joy. It is from New Look again, but with a lot of modification by myself. It is a constant work in progress and a lot more has been done to it since these photos were taken. These are some of the better photos I have of it (with help from my Auntie's adorable cat Reggie playing parrot). Most of the patches are either random Ebay finds, or are from Kreepsville 666. They do just my sort of creepy but cute.

You'll notice some badges on the jacket, again, random finds from places, mostly Star Trek themed, some Little Miss Delicious, and one is a special Star Trek badge from the group I am a member of which was started for DSTL in 2012, a Star Trek con I went to. Only the first 250 group members have it, so we could identify each other easily at the con, made making friends super easy and fun!

The back of the jacket is most most beloved Blackcraftcult Lucifer the Cat back patch. As soon as I saw this back patch, there was to be no other, but it was out of stock! So for literally months, I checked the site every single day to see if they were back in stock, till finally I was lucky and it came back in! :D I love it, I need to get it sown on properly still as it is safety pinned at the moment, I can cross stitch, but I just wouldn't do sewing this on justice, it needs a machine.

Once I get the skirt repaired I will totally be resurrecting this outfit this spring, it is so me, and so comfy too which is always a bonus!

Much love,
Kitty
