Prophecy Girl Pins

Tuesday, 30 July 2019

It's always sad when you discover an indy company just as they are closing down. I found Prophecy Girl weeks before they closed down unfortunately. They sold a variety of nerdy clothing, patches and pins, no clothing in plus sizes, but patches and pins are something I am always after! With a name like Prophecy Girl, I went on the hunt for Buffy the Vampire Slayer inspired pins and I was not disappointed.

I grabbed 3 pins, first up was this Team Buffy pin. I love the detailing, the Scythe crossing behind the main design, a reference to the final season and Caleb and the Turok-Han, Mr Pointy the stake, and the Claddagh, a nod to Buffy's ring from Angel.

I then couldn't resist the counterpart Team Faith pin! (I wish they'd have a Kendra one too, would have loved that). This time the detailing includes Faith's tribal tattoo, and the knife the Major gets her that Buffy ultimately stabs her with. I put one on each side of my denim jacket. Teenage greebo me always thought Faith was 10x cooler than Buffy.

And lastly the Slay Every Day pin. This one features both Mr Pointy and Faith's knife, with the Scythe, Olaf the Troll God's hammer, and the famous Vampyr book Giles shows Buffy when he first arrives in Sunnydale to show her he knows who she is.

Most of my pins are feminist pins, or Pokemon themed pins, so I think these make a great addition to my jacket. I know Joss Whedon has turned out to be truly hideous, and that the show itself is problematic for so many reasons, but Buffy was the first time I had ever seen a girly girl kicking ass and being so strong and independent on tv, and I adored it. I loved Willow and how her nerdiness could save the day. I loved Faith's take no nonsense attitude. I loved Cordelia's story arc from stereotypical preppy prom queen to an essential part of the team (forgetting what Joss Whedon did to her in Angel because she did not deserve that!). I loved Tara's quiet soul and how she overcame her abusive family. I loved Kendra's desire to keep fighting even when she had lost her watcher. I even loved to hate the bad guys, Drusilla inspired teenage me to have a blindfolded porcelain doll on my bookshelf.

If you see any Buffy pins, I'd love some more!

Much love,

Punky Pins Seconds Haul

Tuesday, 16 October 2018

Every year Punky Pins do a massive warehouse seconds sale, and every year I leap on it and order a bunch of cuteness! I love what they do, they make a gorgeous mix of enamel pins, iron on patches and even some jewellery, but I am all about their namesake, the pins. As soon as they announce their seconds sale you have to be quick, stuff sells out quick! Here's what I managed to bag.

Anything spooky and cute is right up my street, so I had to get this double eyed kitty. The warehouse sale is mostly 'seconds', so pins Punky Pins don't consider up to scratch to sell full price, but they are often really hard to tell why it's a second. For example this kitty pin has a tiny mark in the white of the lower left eye and that's it!

I'm know for my love of succulents, they are all over our house, I had them in my wedding bouquet, and I have them tattooed on me! So I had to grab this one.

I couldn't resist this cute mermaid inspired pin. The purple glitter is so lovely, such attention to detail.

This little pretzel snake was too adorable to resist! I love the hot pink background contrasted with the black.

How could I not want a pin telling inspired by Cry Baby?

Moths are another thing I can never get enough of.  This is a pin I've had my eye on for a while so I could not resist when I saw it in the sale!

Unfortunately some of the pins I ordered in the sale were sold out by the time I checked out. Punky Pins kindly refunded my money for those and sent this little cutie as a 'sorry' gift.

Now, for my three absolute favourites that I got my mitts on...

I had to have this! A mix of horror movies and pastel is perfect for me, it's my fave genre!

I picked this one up because it kind of reminded me of the South Park episode 'Woodland Critters Christmas'. A little satanic deer!

And my absolute fave, this little bunny in the iconic Scream Ghostface mask was the first thing in my basket. I love it so much!! Spooky cute is everything.

Can you even tells what makes some of these seconds? Because I really struggled! Which is your fave?

Much love,

Punky Pins Haul

Tuesday, 18 April 2017

Every now and then I seem to go on little lucky streaks and win competitions I enter online, and recently I've won two! One of those was run by Punky Pins, hosted on their instagram. While I didn't win the top prize, I did win a 50% off voucher that I was thrilled with. I'd been planning on placing an order, so it was clearly meant to be! They then hosted a 'seconds' sale, selling off slightly faulty designs cheap, and I couldn't resist grabbing a ton of their designs. So here's what I bought with my voucher!

These three were all the pins I got in the seconds sale, so all have slight faults. With the first pin you can see the lettering is missing some of the black colour, with the cats pin it is less obvious, and the cat has a mark on his pink belly, and in the guitar it is even less obvious, with a slight bit of colour missing at the bottom of the V of the guitar. None of the faults are really obvious, and when sold at half price you can't complain. With my 50% off voucher I really couldn't say no!

Mermaid Pin (no longer available)

And now, a trio of mermaids, how could I resist?! They are all so different from each other. My favourite is probably the chubby mermaid, I love that she is fat, as well as a woman of colour, it's fab seeing a brand with diversity in their range like this. Next fave is the spooky mermaid because she's cute and slightly terrifying at the same time. Lastly I had to get the classic mermaid because she's so sassy and I like her shell.

You know I had to get the cactus pins, I'm obsessed! I had a cactus pin on my denim jacket but it's pin is badly placed so it turns around and I couldn't stand it any more. Given that my life is ruled by cats I had to get the bad ass 'worship me' pin, and that ghost in a flower crown is just the best sort of spooky cute! I love that Punky Pins have so many pins with a feminist message, the lipstick and knife set is adorable and feisty and why wouldn't I want the word feminist emblazoned upon my jacket?

I could have bought SO many more but just had to stop myself somewhere. I want all their pins and can't wait to see what they come out with next.

Much love,
Kitty xxxx

My Pin Collection!

Sunday, 6 March 2016

I love a good pin. I always have. From my days as a teenage greebo (or skater for those not from Grimsby), I can never resist a pin. I used to cover bags with them, but now I have a new project, a denim jacket!

I have so many plans for more pins on this jacket, but I couldn't resist photographing it and sharing it as is. I'll probably end up rearranging them as I think the pins under the lapel will be slightly hidden when I actually wear it.

I have a pretty varied mix of styles and types, and I am forever on the hunt for more, so do let me know your favourite pin companies!

Glitter Moon - Peppermint Puff
Eye and Bat - Peppermint Puff

I've had these pins for a long time but haven't used them yet, I love the creepy cute eyeball! These are nice and sturdy, and the glitter in the moon catches the light so well.

Beam Me Up - Amazon
Romulan Star Empire - Amazon

Um, if you didn't know that I'm a trekkie, you do now. I love that the Romulan Star Empire pin is subtle, for the proper nerd! I'm curious to see if anyone gets the reference when I wear it.

Butt - Punky Pins
Yeah I Know - Punky Pins
Saturn - Punky Pins
Death Head Moth - Punky Pins
RIP Grave - Punky Pins

A mix of pretty and goth, I love the sassiness of the Punky Pins range, they have such cheeky phrases on their pins! And that bat is just adorable, he has the sweetest little face. I love mixing typically 'girly' colours with more gothic designs, it's my style in pin form.

You're so cool - Red Temple Prayer

True Romance is my favourite film ever, and it's one of the things that brought me and Stu together. I had to have this pin! I'm not normally one for gold, but I thought the legs and roses pin matched the Alabama pin wonderfully.

Pineapple and watermelon - Kim-Anh Nguyen for Red Temple Prayer

I love classic tattoo imagery, so these Red Temple Prayer pins were an easy choice, and I think moths are adorable. All of these came from outside of the UK and arrived really quickly and well packaged.

Stegosaurus - Punky Pins
'Don't be a prick' cactus - Punky Pins

Who doesn't love a dinosaur? Punky Pins have a few different types of dinosaurs and all different colours. And combining my love of cactuses with a sassy phrase is so me. This cactus pin has a slight tendency to turn around and end up upside down because the pin is at the base of the cactus, but it's so fun I can forgive it.

I have serious lust for so many pins right now. This jacket needs way more before I'll be happy with it. I'm also considering cutting the sleeves off and making it into a waistcoat, as I have a normal denim jacket I've modified and love.

Sugar & Vice Puns

I love me some Sugar & Vice, and their new pin range is seriously amazing! They have both enamel pins and adorable acrylic brooches that are larger too.

TobyLikesCats

You know I'm a cat lady, and I couldn't resist sharing these. All of the adorables!

Aren't they all the cutest?

Much love,
Kitty xxxx
