Models Own Win

I was recently incredibly lucky on Instagram, and thanks to a competition I have won the entire of Models Own's new spring nail varnish collection! I'm a total nail varnish addict so I was utterly thrilled, and I had to share all the colours with you guys.

When this huge box arrived I knew it was going to be a real treat! There are basically 5 sets of 5 polishes, all that look lush.

Lovely bright pinky tones that are perfect for spring.

Pastels are always a key trend at this time of year.

A good range of nudes which is such an interesting look for nails, I'm really excited to try these!

GLITTER!

And the ones I was most excited for, the holochromes. I love shiny, I love metallic, I love iridescent. I had to try these first, and got great coverage in two coats which is great. I usually need 3 or 4 coats due to accidentally staining my nails with orange nail varnish at Halloween that still hasn't grown out, but this was full coverage at 2 coats.

The nudes and pastels are all part of the HyperGel collection, which is extra glossy and gel like, aiming to give a salon finish. I'm so trying these next! It's going to take me a while to try them all.

I've finally gotten rid of all my super old nail varnishes since I won these, so my collection is still pretty big, but much newer and better now! I've been lucky enough to win about 7 competitions over the years on instagram, it's always well worth entering them, you never know!

Introducing Radioactive Unicorns Nail Varnish

My name is Kitty, and I am obsessed with nail varnish. I love it, I must have easily 100 bottles! I love painting my nails bright colours and making a real statement with them, so when I discovered Radioactive Unicorns, I knew they were the brand for me. They are a cruelty free independent brand who make all the colours your dreams are made of. Whether you are a mermaid queen or a spooky delight, they have the most incredible colours I've ever seen!

I placed my order when I saw that they were doing a limited edition shade in memory of Lemmy, with the proceeds going to the Ronnie James Dio Charity. Perfect timing. At £6.95 each they are a little pricier than a standard drug store nail varnish, but I had a feeling they would be more than worth it....

The first one I therefore had to try was Mr Lemmy Kilmister. It's a gorgeous mix of metallic colours, glitter and little sequins, and it has really great coverage. This is 3 coats, no top coat or base coat. These are just lit with a lamp in my house, and really don't show off how incredible the depth of the color is, so a little video in daylight was needed!

Just divine! Everyone who saw it commented on how amazing it was, and how they hadn't seen a nail colour like it.

Next up I decided to try out one of the glitters in 'BAD GIRLS!', a really bright pink. This is 3 coats, again with no top or bottom coat. Barbie wishes she had this colour! Something to note is how easy these nail varnishes are to use, I am terrible at painting my nails and always have to clean them up a lot, but these have a thicker consistency that most so are super easy to apply neatly. This photo really doesn't do the colour justice.

Next up I went for 'Hex your ex', which is a silver mixed with purples, pinks, greens and other pastel tones. I've truly never seen a glitter like it. Again these are photos without a top or bottom coat, so a top coat is going to make this into a glossy delight!

And the last shade I went for is 'The necromancer', purple is my favourite colour so I couldn't resist. Again, this is with no top or bottom coat and it still looks fab. It's a really solid colour, this is 3 coats and it provides total coverage.

I am already eyeing up my next purchases from them, I've never used a nail varnish so easy to apply! They are well worth that bit more than drug store prices, for unique colours made by an independent and cruelty free company. I can't wait to see what they do next!

After I discovered the Barry M Aquarium Nail Effects on their website I couldn't resist trying them, and they are so lush! I use 3 layers to make sure my nails get a good covering. These look so amazing in the light, especially the pinky shade with gold tones. I wore the pinky colour for just over a week, with no top coat, and it lasted so well, it was very long lasting and chip proof. I just painted the blue colour yesterday so I can't comment on it's lasting ability but I suspect it will be the same. Surprisingly, the pinky colour is my favourite of these 2, it reflects light so well.

I have a weird sort of love-hate with matte nail varnish. I go through phases of adoring it, and others of disliking it. This teal colour was so gorgeous I had to get it. Boots were running a buy one get one half price on Barry M which I can never say no to. With matte varnish you can't use a top coat because obviously it sort of defeats the purpose of it, and it isn't as chip proof as the others, but it lasted well for a weekend or so.

I haven't used the nail art pen yet but I plan to soon!

I also got these awesome new brushes from a company I hadn't heard of before, Eco Tools.  They are an eco-conscious company who are animal friendly which is so important to me. The handles of the brushes are made of bamboo, and the brush itself is the softest synthetic fibre! Good quality synthetic brushes are hard to find, and these are wonderful. The two pack is double-ended, and comes in a reusable pouch so is perfect for travelling. The mini brushes also come in a little plastic pack you can keep them in which is super nifty. These were also buy one get one half price in Boots and I highly recommend them.
