My Christmas Day Dress

Thursday 29 December 2016

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas! I spent the holidays surrounded by my friends and family and had the most wonderful time. I was spoilt rotten and for the first time, me and Stu were able to really spoil our families too. I couldn't resist being a pest and shooting my Christmas day outfit real quick to share on my blog.

Dress - Alice & You via ASOS
Leggings - ASOS
Boots - Demonia
Sunglasses - Quay Australia
Cardigan - Label Lab

My Mum got me the cardigan for Christmas. She found it while we were out shopping one day and got me to try it on. It's an XL which is apparently a size 16-18, but it fits me just fine and looks really cute! Size labels aren't the be all and end all, so try stuff on if you think it's lovely.  I love the laddering down the back, teenage greebo me had so many tops like that. It's a great throwback!

With Alice & You I've always been told to size up. It was not necessary in this particular style, but they didn't have my usual size. It's really comfy and an oversized fit, and I love that the velvet is a blush pink colour. You get velvet in green, red and black as standard, but I hadn't seen this colour before.

Ashen can never resist getting in on an outfit photo when he has the chance, sweet poochicle!

My sunglasses were also a Christmas present from my parents. I love Quay Australia sunglasses and these aviators are amazing. They have pink, purple and blue tones and are so comfortable. I have to be careful with sunglasses because of my chronic headaches and migraines, but Quay Australia ones never bother me at all.

I always plan out my Christmas day outfit, do you?

Much love,

My Favourite Outfits of 2016

Tuesday 27 December 2016

This year has been a funny one for my fashion. My tastes have changed, I've gotten braver, but I also feel like I should have documented way more outfits, so I hope to change that in 2017! I can't resist sharing some of my favourite outfits from throughout the year.

2016 was the year I decided that I could get my legs out as much as I wanted, and this dress was a summer favourite. I plan to wear it non-stop once it gets warm again.

I adored the black version of this Jameela Jamil dress* when it came out, so when they released it in red I had to have it. Plus I finally started wearing heels again this year and embracing my height!

This long sleeved lace dress* requires no bra due to my lack of boobage, which makes it super comfy and easy to wear.

I fell in love with drapey layers this year, and these leggings are faves too.

I also discovered a love of jeans, along with my obsession with this Navabi cardigan*. I feel like 2017 will involve a serious hunt for the perfect pair of jeans as every pair I find fits so weirdly. I will find my perfect pair!

A wintery party dress is always a must and this Lady V London dress* is so damn cute.Vintage inspired perfection.

I became a plus size brand ambassador for the Tutu Factory* this year and I think this outfit has to be the best one I've styled with their tutus so far.

LovedRobe sent me this amazing floral maxi dress* for my hen do. It's so unlike anything I would usually wear, but I loved it.

I could basically have picked any and every outfit involving a CowCow dress* because I love the so much, but as this is my most recent addition, this is the one I'm sharing.

I feel like this year I started to finally be the real 'Kitty' in my fashion, and express myself more. There are more different colours in my wardrobe, and more variety and adventure. Long may this continue!

Much love,
Kitty xxxx

The Lindy Bop Dinosaur Dress*

Thursday 22 December 2016

Sometimes you see a dress and fall in love with it, and that's what happened with this Sorrell Volcano and Dinosaur Print Dress* from Lindy Bop. I love dinosaurs, I love dresses, and I love me some Lindy Bop. It was meant to be!

The print on this dress is something else. It features different types of dinosaurs on a volcano landscape with cave girl pin ups. So damn awesome! The colour combination is so pretty, the aqua blue and the red and orange tones are such a great combination. The dress is made of a satiny material rather than a poly-spandex blend, it does have a bit of stretch to it but not much. The fabric makes it a bit fancier and ideal for a party outfit.

The Sorrell style dress nips in at the waist and has a contrasting peter pan collar that is an adorable touch. I haven't tried this style before but it's really sweet.

Sadly for me, this dress does not quite work for me, as it is way too roomy on the bust. I'm not particularly blessed in the bust department and this is much too big on the bust for me. It fits great on the waist in my usual size, but I'd say that this style dress is more suited to those with a large bust. I tried pulling the waist down and it didn't work like that, or with the waist as it is in the photos. Such a shame! I love the print so much that I'm going to see if I can get it tailored so it's more wearable, as right now my bra is just on show due to the gaping at the arm holes.

Lindy Bop have had so many exciting new prints and patterns lately, I'm loving the new range and can't wait to see what they do next.

Much love,
Kitty xxxx

My 2016

Tuesday 20 December 2016

2016 has been an interesting year hasn't it? The world seems to be falling to pieces and I'm genuinely worried about the way politics seem to be going. In a stark contrast, my personal life has been mostly amazing, with a couple of downs to go with my ups, so I'm choosing in this blog to focus on that.

The years started out relatively quiet, January was unremarkable. and in February my birthday was lovely and quiet. I'm not the biggest fan of my birthday, so anytime I can have a nice meal with my family I'm happy. Sadly in February we also suddenly lost our dear, sweet one eyed Sinbad. It was so unexpected and heartbreaking. I miss him a lot and wish he could have been with us longer.

March and April were filled with wedding preparations and DIY, it kept me so busy and I am forever grateful to my Mum, Fal my best friend, my Nanny and my Auntie Maisie. I couldn't have done it without you! I also got to hang out with Melly Em Clark, Nancy of Sugar, Darling and Dom Clark which was so much fun. Anytime I get to hang out with fellow blogger babes is wonderful and I'm lucky to have them nearby.

Me, Melly Em and Nancy, photo by Dom.

March also saw us welcoming a new arrival into our home, the wild hellion beast that is Lemmy Katmister. We adopted him from Cuddles Cat Rescue and it helped us heal after losing Sinbad, knowing we were giving another rescue a much needed home. He is much younger than our other cats Stitches and Patch, and certainly keeps us on our toes. He is a total Mummy's boy and can usually be found in my face!

May was my hen do! I had such a good time and felt so loved that so many people come to it. Afternoon tea, followed by Anti-Nowhere League in the evening. A bit of a mish mash of events, but I wanted something my Nanny and Grandma would enjoy in the day, and was more me in the evening. I also finally decided I needed fun hair again in the run up to the wedding and went pink, with long grown out roots.

Huge thanks to LovedRobe who kindly dressed me for my hen do <3 Headband by Corn & Glory and sash by Oh Squirrel.

And June... June was the best month of my life. I got to marry Stu! He's the best thing to ever happen to me. He constantly makes me laugh, I have never felt so loved, he shares my politics, is a goober with me, is genuinely caring and would do anything for those he loves, and is so supportive. I'm so damn lucky. Our wedding was truly incredible. I blogged a whole bunch about it, which you can read more of in the wedding tab in the top menu bar. I never thought I would get married, and to be able to call my best friend my husband is everything. Best day of my life.

A week or so later we then went on our first ever holiday together, our honeymoon to Turkey. Two weeks together in a beautiful country, relaxing and enjoying each other's company. We are hoping we'll be able to go on holiday again next year!

I'd say the rest of the year was a bit more peaceful, but between a 50th birthday, a 70th birthday, an 80th birthday, my brother getting engaged and so much more, I don't feel like we've stopped!

2016 marked a full year of Botox for my chronic headaches, and the first time I can say I had truly pain free days in years. It has been so liberating and life changing. I honestly couldn't have coped with the busy year and the wedding in pain like I was, and it makes me so emotional. I am so grateful for our NHS and how much they have improved my life.

I seem to have travelled more than I have in years this year, with trips to Liverpool for Curve Fashion Festival, and finally taking Stu to Wales to visit my family too. CFF was so much fun, even though I stayed in the worst hotel ever. We also had a weekend away in Sheffield to see Evil Scarecrow! My Mum and Dad moved to Cheltenham so we've been to visit them a few times too, such a lovely town.

Naomi of Diamonds and Pearls and Steph of Nerd About Town.

Both me and Stu got promotions in our jobs which has been so helpful in terms of our finances, and it's given us both new challenges we are enjoying. I love my new role and I'm really proud of myself for it. It's not a position I ever thought I'd be in and is so different from anything I studied. It's the first time either of us remember having disposable income like we have now. We've gone out for dinner a few times as a couple, something I don't think we have ever done before! When Stu needed a new pair of trainers he bought them. To not have to worry so much is such a dream and a privilege. We aren't flush by any means, but to have that little bit of money for us is everything.

Stu raised over £1300 for charity and shaved his beard! Full blog post on this here.

I've been able to work with some brands I love this year, and started writing for She Might Be which is a truly body positive website written entirely by plus size bloggers. I'll share some of my favourite outfits in another blog post I think or I'll be here forever!

My blog was also nominated for a couple of awards from a sadly rather unsavoury company who cancelled their awards last minute and hurt a lot of people. I didn't win, but I was so proud that you guys nominated me at all!

I can only hope that 2017 is brighter for the world, and that I can be lucky enough to continue to be so charmed!

Much love,
Kitty xxxx

Colourpop To and From Lippie Stix Set

Sunday 18 December 2016

As much as I love a liquid lip, Colourpop's lippie stix are definitely my preference for winter. Cold days and central heating mean dryer skin, so they are just more comfortable than a matte liquid lip. When I saw this limited edition holiday set To and From, I just had to have it.

For starters, the packaging is amazing. The lippe stix come displayed in this record packaging, which was held in the box above. They aren't particularly Christmassy colours, or holiday themed, but they are amazing.

Inside is this matte leopard print pattern, and 6 lippe stix in limited edition holiday packaging. Instead of the usual holographic font and glossy white, they come in matte black with silver font. I love it!

Top to bottom these are Parker in a matte finish, Cami in matte X, Baewatch in matte, Pack Pack in matte X, Weekender in matte X, and Tutu in matte. I love the holographic font Colourpop usually use, but I actually think I prefer this matte black to their usual white packaging, it's more my aesthetic and so cool.

I tried to be clever and swatch these in the same order they are listed above, but as they are on my non-dominant arm I ended up photographing them upside down, so these are the list above top to bottom, but instead right to left, so Tutu through to Parker as you look at them. Oops. I absolutely love the matte X finish, it's like velvet. I think Weekender is an absolutely perfect velvety red, and the three pinky nude tones are so pretty for day to day wear. I think these are actually colours that work all year round, the three on the left are more autumn/winter, and the three on the right are more spring/summer.

Sadly this set was limited edition and has sold out, but I couldn't resist sharing it, sorry!

Much love,
Kitty xxxx

5 Movies That Make Me Happy

Thursday 15 December 2016

So, new blog series time! After the success of my 5 Songs That Make Me Happy post last week, I've decided it's high time my blog had a new series, so welcome to 5 Things. Picking just 5 songs was ridiculously difficult, so in keeping with impossible themes, this week I'm going to share 5 movies that make me happy. These aren't necessarily my favourite films, but they are ones that never fail to make me smile.

1) Hairspray (2007)

Yes, I really do specifically mean the remake, which I know some people consider a travesty, but I love it. The songs fill me with glee, I want to dance along, and I love that it features fat beautiful babes who don't change to achieve their dreams or find love. Queen Latifah is a total dreamboat in it and Elijah Kelley who plays Seaweed is everything. This is my go to movie for when I'm sick, it always brightens my day.

2) True Romance

So this list isn't necessarily all my favourite films, but this is my all time favourite film. Stu loves it too, to the point that we have quotes from it on our wedding rings. Patricia Arquette has never looked better than in this film and the fashions are incredible. We have an original VHS advert poster from this on our living room wall too, and we own at least 4 different versions of this on DVD and blu-ray. If you haven't seen this, watch it. It's cast is a veritable Hollywood who's who, yet so many people haven't even heard of it. You're so cool!

3) Con Air

The cheesiest action film ever made, and I bloody love it. When I split up with my last boyfriend the first thing I did was order myself a DVD of this on Amazon because I knew he would take it with him and I love it that much. I must have seen it 70 times. It is completely over the top and absurd and that's why it works. Nic Cage is just too funny in it, that accent. Put the bunny back in the box!

4) Stranger Than Fiction

I have to confess, I am not someone who finds Will Ferrell's particular brand of comedy funny. He just sort of comes across as man child shouting things loudly, and I don't really get it. However, Stranger Than Fiction shows a different side of him, and he gives a really nuanced performance you would never expect from him. It's a beautiful love story, and the 'flours' moment still makes my heart all gooey.

5) Mallrats

I am the first to acknowledge that all of the men in this do not deserve their happy endings, they are in fact, all arseholes. However, I remember seeing this film for the first time so vividly. I was 15 and with my boyfriend at the time, and he had done that cliche teenage boy thing of putting a film on to lure me into making out. Unfortunately for him, he put Mallrats on, so he got absolutely nothing out of me save for my hysterical laughter and immediate obsession with this film, Sorry Jon! Our friendship and my love of this film lasted much longer than our actual relationship did haha.

What are your go to feel good movies?

The Great British Beard Off

Tuesday 13 December 2016

So for the last month Stu has been raising money for the Shaun Wright Foundation, which is a charity set up in memory of a dear co-worker of his. It aims to raise money for Pancreatic Cancer Action, to fund research into pancreatic cancer, which is sadly lacking.

Monday was the big day! The amazing Mug & Brush in Keelby very kindly opened up especially for the event, offering their services for free, and even putting on nibbles and drinks for everyone attending, fantastic folks! We invited friends and family down for the event and the Grimsby Telegraph came along too.

Rebecca Wright had the first cut, the incredible woman who set up the Shaun Wright Foundation in memory of her husband Shaun. With Stu's fundraising, they are up to just under £30,000 raised since June 2015, a truly stunning amount!

Off the plait came. Then it was onto clipping the rest, then a shave, then a cut throat shave to really make sure Stu's face was properly naked for the first time in a long, long time.

Huge thanks have to go to Karen for setting up the event and opening up her salon to us, and to Laura for the actual shave. It had to be nerve racking with such a crowd of spectators.

And now..... the before and after...

How handsome is my husband? He's a beaut with and without the beard.

Huge thank you to all the readers who sponsored Stu, it was really heartwarming to see donations with comments on saying they read my blog and wanted to donate. Thank you guys so much! If you do want to pop a last minute donation on his justgiving page, I'll pop the link below.

Much love,

A Morris Family Christmas Tree

Sunday 11 December 2016

We put our tree up last weekend, but I totally forgot to share it on my blog before now! We get our Christmas tree from a local farm, Town Gate Farm, and this year opted for a 6ft Norway Blue. We took the boys along with us to pick for the first time this year and they loved the colour of it so home it came with us. There's nothing quite like the smell of a Christmas tree farm, it really gets you feeling in the holiday spirit.

Our tree is a real mish mash of fun and unique baubles, so I just had to share some of my faves with you. Pretty much all of them are from Asda, but if they aren't I will pop a little comment  underneath the photo with where it is from.

Custom from Sugar & Vice

Aren't they so cute? You can get such adorable baubles these days. Some of these are a few years old now, like the T Rex, the robot, the burger, the fries and the tiger (sorry! I know!), but the balloon dog, the whale, the cat and the rainbow are all new this year from Asda.

I finally found a good spot for this string of light bulbs too. I'm the trekkie in our house, Stu isn't a fan, the shame!

When did you put your decorations up? After the 1st December it's a free for all for me as far as Christmas is concerned. I can't resist.

Much love,
Kitty xxx
